Headaches and pressure on teeth

Post by ATXFerret » Mon Jun 09, 2014 11:36 pm

Hello again CPAP talk people. You were very helpful last time I needed help, so maybe you can give me some guidance here.

I've been having bad headaches for the past 2-3 weeks. I'm also getting pressure on my teeth, but top and bottom, from my mask. I'm not sure if the two are connected, but either way, this is obviously bad. I'm thinking the cause is because I have to have the mask strapped really tight to not leak due to the level 17 pressure that I use.

I have to have a full face mask. Even with a jaw strap on, I force open my mouth in my sleep.

I am currently using a small Mirage Quattro. It is the only mask that I have tried that does not leak annoyingly from around my nose area.

I have also tried a medium Mirage Quattro, but it leaks like crazy around the bridge of my nose, even with a padacheek. I also tried a medium Quattro FX, but that also leaked annoyingly. It's not so much that the leak is enough to kill therapy, but it''s enough that it wakes me up because it's either noisy or blowing right in my eyes.

I don't think my insurance company is going to pay for another mask yet, so I'm probably looking at having to pay out of pocket for this one. Any suggestions, since I'll probably end up ordering it online? It has been my experience that it's a total crapshoot anyway since every mask seems to fit fine at the DME and then stop fitting about an hour into sleep.

And yes, I know about laying down, relaxing my face, laying on my side, etc. I've done all of that, and yet it seems to change in the middle of the night no matter what.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

1. Why did you choose a full face mask instead of a nasal mask or pillows ?

2. Have you tried "The Doctor's Night Guard" ? It's $20 at Walmarts

3. Are you indicating that your teeth hurt ONLY where the mask puts pressure on your teeth ?

I used to use your mask due to high pressure. Then I was switched by my DME to the Ultra Mirage and fit is best it's ever been. Not perfect but very doable. I also had a bite guard made from the dentist so I don't damage my teeth

What masks have you tried other than the Mirage Quattro in a couple of sizes and the Quattro FX? Anything else?
Have you read Janknitz's hints on taming the Quattro?
http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/taming ... e-quattro/
Watched the fitting videos?
Have you tried a mask liner? Many forum members who have to use high pressures swear by them.
Just trying to figure out what all has been tried and failed before offering ideas.

No mask should be so tight the headgear causes headaches and the pressure from the mask causes teeth pain. It's either fitted incorrectly or simply not the right mask for someone.
