Encore Data downloads
Encore Data downloads
I noticed that a few folks have mentioned that they have smart cards but no software. There are a number of us that have the software, maybe we start up an exchange to read cards for those that can't afford the software?
Just a thought...

The smart cards store up to 6 months of data. I'd be happy to download data for anybody that wants to send me their smart card. The data sheets can be saved to a PDF. Idealy if you have two smart cards you can swap them out once a month or so.
Great idea Mike.

2 smartcards? You mean you can buy another card? My machine just has the one. I haven't seen the cards anywhere.
I have the Encore software now and the extra card that comes with it, so I have 2 now. I'm in the Atlanta area and would be glad to read someones card for them and email it to them in pdf file.

I may take you up on your offer to get the information off the Smartcard if I end up buying the Remstar.
After reviewing things for many days, it seems the best way to go may be the Remstar Pro C-Flex w/humidifier that cpap.com offers at $613. It comes with the smartcard but not the software.

Snorenomore, the names of these machines get confusing, but if I'm not mistaken, the specific one you're talking about - Respironics REMstar Pro with C-flex - is not going to give you any useful information from its smartcard. This is in the description of that machine:
"Encore Pro SmartCard compatibility records compliance information."
Compliance information is just the number of hours you use the machine. No info about apneas/hypopneas, etc...the stuff you really want to see.

MuckWader,
I thought I read somewhere that the cards stored about 6 months of compliance info, but only 7 - 9 days of detailed (apap) info. We had better get this straight.
I would also be happy to help out on a trial basis - this could become overwhelming if it caught on Let's see what happens.
PM me if you're interested.
derek

SmartCard Storage capacity
I just looked at the specs on the back of the REMStar Auto brochure:
DATA STORAGE CAPACITY (minimum): 6 months @ 3 usage sessions/day; 7-9 days in-depth data analysis
BTW- I didn't realize there was another card in the software package - just found it. Thanx

Derek,
Thanks for discovering that. I just looked quickly when I originally posted. I download my info every day or two, so I haven't gotten stung by that "fine print". Since you get about a week of info, the user would probably need two card to make this work. Your right about "if this catches on." My thought is that if the user likes the info on the data sheets, he/she will ultimately buy the cardreader/software. If they decide they don't really care about looking at the data, they won't continue requesting downloads. Either way, as with anything connected with the internet, if it catches on, the response could be astronomical.
rested gal,
You're right about the Remstar Pro data. As far as I'm concerned, the data from all but the auto is good only for the mistrusting DME/Doc who wants third party verification of compliance.
Mikesus,
I know Respironics sells the smart cards indvidually and in packs of 10. They also sell mailers (probably over-priced)

The smart cards are $10 at cpap.com. It seems that it would be affordable to get an extra card to swap out while your card was out being downloaded.
I already gotten one request. If anyone else is interested feel free to PM me.
