I have slept two night now with the CPAP and while I still am yawning this morning, it is definitely an improvement. I am sure it will get even better as time goes on. My question is...
Did anyone else have the experience of suddenly sleeping in one position the entire night? I have never stayed in one place and I have the last two nights on CPAP! Is that a result of sleeping better or something else? Mind you, I'm not complaining - it means I'm not giving the poor dog fits by constantly disturbing him!
Also, I was thinking about changing the exhale relief a bit. It feels kind of suffocating when I put the mask on and it takes me some time to reign in my claustrophobia. When I wake up early morning, it's fine, only when I first put it on. What do you all think? Would changing the exhale relief help that?

Well, try it. It's the EPR setting. When you set it to one, the pressure will drop 1 cm/h20, during exhaling. Set it to 2, and the pressure will drop 2 cm/h20 and 3 is the max. I recently had in increase my EPR, and eventually had to get more exhale relief with a bipap, because my lungs were sore in the morning. I was trying to exhale against the mask pressure and the resistance was leaving my lungs sore. It worked. When making adjustments, give it time. Maybe a week or two before adjusting again.Seawind36 wrote:Did anyone else have the experience of suddenly sleeping in one position the entire night?
Yes, this is quite normal. Your sleep is much better and deeper. When I first started, I felt real achey in the morning due to staying in one position a long time. You get used to it.
Also, I was thinking about changing the exhale relief a bit. Would changing the exhale relief help that?

Sounds like your pressure is starting off too low for you. Very common problem. Are you using the ramp feature, or an auto range? Chances are, it starts at 4. You probably want to change it to 6 or 7. We won't suffocate at 4, but it feels like it, and that makes it uncomfortable.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

I've never moved much in my sleep (stay on my back all night and wake up exactly in the same spot), but have noticed even less movement since starting CPAP...such that my neck feels more stiff in the morning. Besides looking into if your starting pressure is too low, you may also look to see if you have a ramp that could be removed, which would essentially do the same thing (start at a higher minimum APAP therapy pressure instead of a lower comfort pressure). Best wishes.

What are your pressure settings and ramp setting? On your machine display, what is your AHI and leak emoticon?Seawind36 wrote:I have slept two night now with the CPAP and while I still am yawning this morning, it is definitely an improvement.
