Travel Machine advice

Post by Potted-Palm » Mon Jun 02, 2014 12:58 pm

Hey folks,
I've been 'lurking' on this site for almost a year. WOW. I can't believe its been that long since I started CPAP.
Unlike lots of folks on the site, I had no problems with adjusting to my equipment and now sleep like a baby. The only thing I added (that was not in the original prescription) was an overhead hose holder to keep , what felt like an octopus, the hose contraption away from my arms.
I do need some advice from the expert travelers. I'm looking at purchasing an additional machine to use as a backup and also as my travel machine, so the TRANSCEND Auto Travel and the Z1 Travel are the two on my list. I would appreciate any advice you might have regarding either of these machines. I realize that the TR has been on the market for some time, but I'm really interested in anybody's opinion of the Z1 Travel. It seems to meet my needs and is smaller.
As you can see I use the Swift FX nasal pillows and a heated humidifier. One concern/question I have is whether the Z1's Heat Moisture Exchange Unit (HME) would actually work with the nasal pillows. The Z1's HME would have to connected between the tubing that connects to the pillows and the tubing that connects to the CPAP machine.

thanks for your help

My advice would be to forget about either of the true travel machines you mention and use your System One machine as a travel machine instead. If space is at a terrible premium you can consider separating the humidifier and just using the actual machine.

If you do a search on "travel" and both the machines you mention here on the forum as well as read the reviews on CPAP.com you'll quickly see why.

Good luck!

I have the PR System 1. When I travel, I disconnect the humidifier and the cell phone on the back (I cover the cell phone connection with the supplied cap). Then I just put the unit and power brick in my briefcase. The System 1, mask and standard 22mm hose go in separate zip lock bags when not in use. I find that the plastics pick up hotel smells very quickly if you don't bag the gear. Yuk.

Those other travel units are like toys.
PR System One Auto A-flex
ResMed Mirage Ultra Mask
Sleepmapper for Android
No humidifier (I take my air shaken, not stirred)

I want a travel machine too. There has been a lot of discussion about the noise of the Z1. What I can’t get from the prior posts is whether anyone has solved the noise!!!! Lots of comments on the old posts; but it seems no one wants to write about this. Z1 would make a very good backup, solve the battery issue, and the HME is a good option as a backup! I hope some of the experts will comment!!!!!!!!!
