CPAP machines and cloth masks

Post by mickenglish » Mon Mar 24, 2014 6:52 pm

I am planning to buy a second machine so that I have a back-up. It seems that the S9 is a big improvement on the ICON and the S9 Bi-level would be better again. Anybody able to add to that?
I am also interested in the cloth masks, every now and then the Mirage Quattro FF brutalizes my proboscis and I then spend a few days explaining that my wife doesn't beat me. (She doesn't, really) So, I'm on the lookout for something of a gentler nature in a full face mask. I tried the Gel Seal but it was a fail for me. Has anybody had any success with the cloth masks?
I acknowledge that I'm imposing on the good nature of the forum contributors and I do appreciate any responses received.
Regards
Mick

The only cloth mask in the full face category is the Circadiance Anew...mixed reviews on it from that I have read.
Love it or hate it..but that's sort of the way it has been with any of the cloth masks.

Circadiance makes some other cloth masks but those are nasal only...mouth is uncovered.

I forget what pressures you are using...aren't they a bit high? In the upper teens?
If so and you can get your hands on the S9 VPAP Auto bilevel pressure machine you will love it but if you can't we can play with the S9 AutoSet and its EPR and give you 3 cm reduction which would help.

Thanks again Pugsy. Yes I am running 17. I would love to buy a S9 VPAP but there is apparently some restriction on selling them into Australia. I wonder if the restriction also applies to pre-owned and shop demo machines?

I have both the SleepWeaver Anew and Elan. They both are awesome masks. Light on the face, they fit like a glove. The only bad thing is sometimes a little bit of air leaks on to my eyes or forehead. Easy to adjust. I don't think I will go back to a plastic or gel mask.

ResMed and Respironics won't allow places like cpap.com to sell/ship outside the USA...same online sellers in Canada can't ship out of Canada...and I can't by ResMed or Respironics stuff from Australia and have it shipped here.

Check with secondwindcpap.com. In the past they have sold and shipped used ResMed products outside the USA.
Since they don't buy directly from ResMed then I think they can get around that little shipping restriction.

And please note that "S9" is a series name; there are 3 models in this series.

Similarly for the Respironics "Series 60".

If getting and S9, I would definitely want an Autoset.

Here is a compilation of a great many of the S9 products:

My hubby tried the Anew & found it much too leaky. I heard from someone around here that Circadiance would be coming out with a newer version of that mask with some of the leaky problems addressed & hopefully fixed. If you are hoping to try that mask, I'd wait a little bit for the new version, it would probably be worth the wait, since the leaks were so bad my hubby only wore it a few nights.

OP: if you want to try a SleepWeaver Anew let me know. You pay for shipping and I can send you mine. It was too small for me.

I tried the full face cloth mask by Sleepweaver. It was too leaky at my pressures but the people at 1800CPAP.COM took it back and gave me a store credit. Can't fault that. On the other hand, I tried the S9 Auto VPAP and it proved to be just what I needed. Thanks everybody for the advice so generously given.

If I can find an eyeshield in MY size, I would love to go back to using the élan.
For me the leakage was minimal, but still too much for my extremely sensitive eyes.

Chunky, if you haven't already done it, look up the Onyx Sleep masks - made spec. for Cpappers.

Julie, I tried the Quartz, identical to the Onyx, only clear.
Sadly, they are one size--not mine.

Just for information -I tried the Sleepweaver Anew. Good fit and good seal. But the combination of that mask and my machine made such a loud roaring sound that it was unbearable. Couldn't be in the same room with it.
