Sleep Study Results... sort of

Post by Cr1kk1t » Wed May 21, 2014 7:00 pm

I got a call from the sleep lab this morning regarding my sleep study. They started me out at CPAP 6 and at CPAP 11 I was having 20 events per hour so they switched to bipap. They are ordering me a Respironics 760 Bipap Auto with Bi-flex, humidifier and heated hose, and new mask. I am sticking with the wisp as I really like it. Settings will be 16/11. He said that I barely got above 90% O2 at the end of the study so I will have to have a nocturnal oximetry study done a week after I start the BiPap. He said most likely I will have to continue using oxygen at night. The low oxygen sats don't correlate to apnea events, it just stays down. They are mailing me a copy of the report so when I get it I will share the full details with you.

I spoke to Lincare this afternoon and they have to order the machine as they do not keep them in stock. Should be next week sometime before I get it. When I get my new machine, you all will have to help me fine tune it. Honestly I can't wait to get it. Maybe I will finally stop feeling so tired all the time.

So glad to hear that the study results are back, and that your machine will be coming to you! Good luck in your journey; it seems that you've done well in this beginning. I forget, the machine you've been using was a loaner?

Are you increasing the pressure of your APAP while await the new machine or are staying with your old settings? Good luck. This maybe a complete success!

You might consider gettig your own pulse oximeter as some of us have. CMS makes several models available for about $100 to $180. This will allow you to monitor your O2 levels every night if you choose. I don't think a 1 or 2 night study is enough, especially if they add supplemental O2. I was unhappy with my O2 levels and have added supplemental O2 which only brings my average up from ~91 to ~93 but I no longer drop below 80, my nadir is now around 87.
Since I can monitor it myself I can play with the volume of O2 if I choose to fine tune things.

Unfortunately no. As I increase the pressure I throw more centrals That is one of the reasons we did a new sleep study and I am switching to bilevel.

I have my own pulse ox. It is a CMS50E. That is how I ended up on oxygen at night. I will wear it every night of the first week on bilevel and when the nocturnal O2 study is done. After that I will wear it here and there just to check things..
