smell of new tubing

Post by Beckster377 » Fri May 16, 2014 6:27 pm

Hi...I saw some posts about the new smell of masks and so forth. I just got a cpap machine, an Intellipap, that has a hose that is not heated, therefore the ends are "rubbery". I have washed it and aired it, yet still feel "sensitized" to it. I am pretty sure I have MCM and have multiple fragrance allergies that include feeling spacy, facial pain, migraine triggering, and just overall queasy, with exposure to chemicals that don't agree with me. I can spend half or more of the day feeling like this if I get a couple good doses.

I guess I have to order another hose to see if it's better, but wondered if anyone knew about a sensitive person hose? That sounds funny. I have the feeling that it's the rubbery ends, since the material would be more porous. Does anyone have ideas of how to maybe coat the ends, without that making it worse? I know some scents fade, but I need to get the loaner back soon....any help would be appreciated. (the hose on the loaner has a different ender)
Thanks,
Becky

Try rinsing in 50-50 white vinegar and water. Perhaps soak 30 minuets or so before a rinse in fresh. Could hang in the sun to dry, some plastics give off vapors when new and/or warm then finally dissipate. Good luck.

I used non-alcoholic mouth wash. dilute it 1 part mouthwash, 3 part water. Rinse it for 5 minutes and then dry it (but not under direct sun). It leaves a slight minty scent that dissipates after 2-3 days.

I have tried diluted soap and dettol, I hated the residual soap and dettol smell.

I'm thinking of Ozium.
I sprayed some on a cotton ball, and put it in a zipper bag with a smoky cushion.
4 hours later, the smoke smell was nearly gone.
Sample size spray can was a buck at the hardware store.

See if the hose will fit over the end of the faucet on your sink. Run hot water through it for a while.

I changed the aerator on my kitchen sink just so it would fit CPAP hoses.
