DME provider scam??

Post by carriesue66 » Tue May 13, 2014 9:10 pm

I received my supplies, a hose and only the nasal mask (no head gear) ,as I was told insurance will cover a new one twice a year. The nasal mask came in a clear plastic bag that was taped closed. It's a resmed nano fx nasal mask. It looked a bit larger than the one I had, so I called my DME and asked if they gaveme the wrong item...I was told I would get a call back. In the meantime, I called Resmed myself, and was told that each product comes in a sealed, and Labeled package from them. I was advised from resmed to call my DME, and inquire where they got the product from, and why was it not in a sealed package...so buyer beware...I have to call the DME tomorrow to follow up...anyone else have this issue with their supplies? What about the heated hose for the resmed S9? Is that supposed to come in a labeled and sealde package? Thanks!

My Resmed heated hose always came in a sealed and labled plastic bag.

Were your CPAP supplies shipped locally if you are dealing with a local DME or were they shipped to you from a regional DME supply warehouse that your DME has a contract with to ship you your CPAP supplies? The DME's I've dealt with ship to me by either USPS, Fedex or UPS Brown and all have had some form of tracking. I would be very suspicious if I received CPAP supplies in clear plastic bags taped closed with no manufacturing labeling on the bags.

My DME is local and I just go there and pick up supplies. They do a wonderful job!

It was probably shipped with headgear included and the DME took the headgear out in order to sell that separately.

Or it was shipped with multiple sizes of pillows, same story.

A former DME of mine sold me a mask that was in previously opened packaging.
Since it was a duplicate of one I already had, I inspected the contents in their office,
discovering that a part was missing! I told them I couldn't accept an incomplete mask,
so they "found" the missing part--somewhere in the back. I took it home, but I would NOT have today!

BTW, as skeptical as I am with DME's, it's probably not a used mask.

It wouldn't surprise me if it isn't something involving splitting up masks to minimize costs, increase profits, or work with insurance requirements like "only one headgear per x months."
