Hi,
I normally use a Remstar Auto C-Flex CPAP machine with heated humidifier, humidity set on 1-3 depending how cold it is (I live in Chicago). I have traveled with it a lot and am tired of the hassle of having to travel with two suitcases (it takes up half of one). I'm leaving for a month in Israel (volunteer on a dig) Saturday and am thinking of getting a Transcend II. My home health company person suggest I try two nights not using the humidifier on my Remstar machine and decide on Thursday if I want it. She says the machine weighs 15 ounces...but the heated humidifer for it weighs 3 lbs. I understand there is some humidification on the Transcend. Has anyone tried going from a regular machine to a Transcend (without its extra humidifier) for extended travel and how was it? Would appreciate any advice...thanks much!

Re: Stop humidification for travel?? Advice please
I go from S9 with humidifier and heated hose to traveling with my Transcend for as much as ten days at a stretch. The difference is certainly noticeable if you are traveling to a dry climate, not much of an issue if you are going to sea level or a humid environment. I always have a good supply of drinking water on the bedside table so when I wake up in the middle of the night I can wet my whistle. You will get a dry throat, but I tend to get used to it as the nights go by. I'd rather have a little dry throat than not have a cpap at all, thats for sure! The Transcend is a good little unit, far superior to the Z1 which I thought was so hard to breath on that I sold it, and kept the Transcend. I guess Israel can go from humid at the sea to very dry inland, so your level of adjustment will depend on humidity of your location - a "dig" sounds like it could be very dry, but i don't know where your dig is, so i am just speculating. I traveled thru Texas, mostly in The Hill Country with the Transcend (no humidification) last year for about ten days with no real problem except a bit of a dry throat upon waking, but as i mentioned above I did get more used to it several nights into the trip.

Thanks..I do have all the gels, sprays, etc for dry mouth so am leaning toward trying it without the humidifier. The kibbutz housing does have air conditioning and this is not in the hotter parts of Israel. I will have a roommate and it stops my snoring (among other benefits) so I must have a CPAP machine.
