TAP PAP

Post by ladyjanern » Tue May 06, 2014 7:43 pm

Who has tried the Tap Pap? I ordered it today and hope it works for me. It looks interesting with the mouth guard piece.

I am a side sleeper and mouth breather. I have tried 2 FFM recently and they just didn't work for me. I love my Swift FX but resort to mouth taping which I don't like, but it works.

Any thoughts?

You might check out a few threads here and other forums. From what I've read, there are some people who swear by the TapPap and others - like me - who want to love it but are having trouble with the fitting of the mouth piece. It's initially very easy to get a proper and comfortable fit; the issue I and others are having is that by the next day, the mouth piece tends to shrink such that it puts a lot of pressure on your teeth, causing pain. I've been messing with the fitting process for two weeks, pretty much on a daily basis and I still can't get the mouth piece to retain a comfortable fit. I'll be curious to hear what your think once you've tried it out. If you need any fitting tips, I'll be happy to help.

Been using this mask for several months now, and I love the freedom of not needing headgear, especially in this hot weather. At first I didn't realize how important it was to jiggle it around - a LOT - during the fitting process. It does seem to tighten as it cools. Got scared my first time that I was gonna have to go to the ER to get it off. Once I did manage to get it off, I reheated it and was careful to make it pretty loose to allow for the tightening. Making sure the hose isn't tugging on the mask - even a little bit - helps regarding soreness. My teeth were sore for at least a couple weeks but not since.

Ladyjanern...I had great success with the Tap Pap myself. I love it. Still number one on my preference list though the Airfit P10 is giving it a run for its money.
There are several Tap Pap review threads but this one is the largest.

It's going to be like every other mask out there...lovers and haters and you have to decide which one you happen to be.

I bet you have that boil and bite thing down pat. I read your thread and for the life of me I can't think of something to try that you haven't already.
Rosie had a similar problem with it wanting to cool down and shrink more after removal in the AM. I think she would remove it and immediately wrap it in a towel but I fail to see how that would keep it warm enough all day.
One thing I found when putting the mouth guard in the mouth after it had sit all day ....if it seemed a little snug I ran it under some fairly warm water for about 30 seconds to sort of "soften" it just a little bit and then it would slip on easier...both from being wet and from being a little warm and tiny bit pliable. Have you tried doing that?
I will post this in your thread also.

So I recieved my Tap Pap and get right to boiling water and doing the fitting. I wanted to love this mask as it has so many pluses for me... no headgear, light weight, low profile but most of all I wanted something to take care of my mouth breathing. This did work however there is one problem that I kept fighting and couldn't fall asleep with it on. The mouth piece causes a huge amount of salvia. I felt like I just kept swallowing and swallowing. For some reason I didn't feel comfortable with this drooling and excessive saliva. So I will try again tonight. The fit was a bit tight on my teeth but that can be adjusted. My body's ability to stop the salvia production can't be controlled. Off to try again. Thanks for all the advise.

I found the mouth piece helped so I didn't have to tape. I started taping with the TAPPAP because I'd done that with the Swift FX, but soon stopped. My lips open sometimes but rare. I use a chin strap which helps my mouth from dropping, maybe someday I'll try the cervical collar or other substitute.

It is worth a trial.
