New Z1 CPAP

Post by bkVT » Tue May 06, 2014 1:06 pm

I recently purchased the new very small Z1 CPAP with battery. I would like to know someone else who is using a Z1 currently. The question I have is I have been using a CPAP since 2001, not of my choice of course. I have used the Paskal and have recently been using the Phillips and have been using the Large Full Face Mirage Pro 4 mask. I really enjoy the larger mask since I was using the "Nose" mask for many years. The problem I am encountering with the Z1 CPAP is when I put the Mirage Pro4 on the unit, I can easily inhale but can't "Exhale" for some reason. The company says "Any" mask can be used with the Z1. Welll, there seems to be a small oval shaped "Diaphragm" right under the two mask vents that flaps "shut" when exhaling and the mask fills up with air immediately and blasts out of the rubber mask seals around the mask.

Is anyone else finding this experience with the Z1 using the Mirage Pro4 Large facemask? If you are using the Z1 CPCP, what brand of mask are you using? ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to have to send the Z1 back, it is so compact and quiet and wonderful...just can''t use the nice Mirage Large mask!
Thanks,
bkVT (Bruce)

I don't see the Mirage Pro 4 on any of the cpap sites, but the "oval shaped diaphragm" should be the anti-asphyxiation valve and should be closed whenever the machine is on. The mask has a "vent" area that should blow air all the time. You haven't covered up the vent have you?

I have been using the Z1 for a few weeks with 2 Resmed masks (one a full face and one a nasal). They seem to work OK but are much noisier than my Resmed Elite.
My biggest issue with the Z1 is that battery life with the Power Shell is only 75% as advertised (should be 8 hrs at 15cm - I get less than 6 hrs).

Re: New Z1 CPAP--UPDATED POSTING

I would like to thank the members that replied to my original posting. I just noticed that in my original posting I mentioned that I have "a afull faced ResMed Pro 4 ".....I purchased it about two months ago for my previous Phillips 1-CPAP machine. I found the order form for it today and found the actual name for the mask is the ResMed Mirage Quattro Full Face Mask Frame System (Large). Sorry about that posting. I am using the ResMed Mirage Quattro on my new Z1 CPAP and I can inhale easily, but the Quattro's anti-asphyxiation valve remains closed during exhale and all of the air in the mask does NOT escape. I have nothing over the "vents". I am hoping to find someone who does not experience this that can let me know what type full face mask they are using so I can order one so I can enjoy my new Z1 CPAP. My setting on the Z1 machine is 14 and I did change the setting to the "CPAP 1" setting but it didn't help with the exhaling problem with the ResMed Quatro.

I have used the MQ (Mirage Quattro) at a pressure of 16 cmH2O with exhale relief turned off and have never had a problem exhaling.

The vent rate is pretty high on the MQ (45 lpm @ 14 cmH2O) so it shouldn't cause much restriction to exhalation. I don't think changing masks is going to help with your problem.

I think I'd have the machine checked with a manometer to ensure that it's delivering the correct pressure.

I see that it has a ramp function. Are you using it, and if so, what is the starting pressure and length of time it's set for?

Thanks for your information Bama Rambler, it's appreciated. I am not using any Ramp on the machine but I will adjust that to see if that helps any. Currently I don't have a manometer but I will find one. I will adjust the ramp today and test it out. Really appreciate your input!

Do you have "z-breathe" turned on?
That is what the exhale relief is called on your machine.
