There's nothing to prevent the mouth opening with the Tap Pap unless someone naturally tends to keep the mouth closed around something in the mouth. I still see evidence of some mouth opening/breathing with the Tap Pap but maybe a little less than I did prior to starting using it. The mouth guard only molds to the upper teeth. No molding on the bottom part of the guard for the lower teeth. Nothing to stop the lower jaw from dropping open. I don't use a chin strap. Don't want to and don't really need to. Whatever mouth breathing/opening I might do is rarely bad enough to get into large leak territory and if I do it doesn't last long and I sleep right through it ....so I just don't care. Some nights my leak line isn't so pretty and some times it looks awesome good like a couple of nights ago when the worst I saw was a short spike to 8 L/min.stopsnoring wrote:Does the Tap Pap Nasal Pillow Mask keep the mouth closed? That's what happened to me, I was clenching so much it woke me up early in my treatment. I got one of the cheap mouthguards, and it worked well for the first month or two, and then I stopped using it and haven't noticed it as badly now, though, I can tell one of my teeth did shift a bit.
Re: Grinding Teeth More now
I would totally be willing to send free Pur-Sleep product to anybody who wants to try it to see if if helps with teeth grinding. I believe that the essential oils may just calm down your central nervous system enough to help with that particular problem. I just need a PM and a mailing address and an email address (all confidential). Nothing expected in return except for honest feedback.
Re: Grinding Teeth More now
People have been contacting me about more information on the offer, and wanting to know how/why it might help with teeth grinding.
I believe that teeth grinding arises from an aroused-unrelaxed central nervous system.
Pleasant aromatics automatically calm down the CNS and focus your conscious attention on the same subject (pleasant smell). As a result, the brain can adjust to the equipment quite quickly and automatically.

Hopefully not jinxing myself here, but I can't see how you could swallow one of these? I wear it on my top teeth as recommended and it's not going anywhere as far as I can tell. But thanks for the warning. Right now, a piece of floss hanging out of my mouth would be more distracting than anything. Also, I would like to think something like this wouldn't be safely sold if people run the risk of swallowing it.Sir NoddinOff wrote:
The Plackers are okay but I nearly swallowed one once, mostly because they are fairly floppy and thin... I was not happy about that If you really like Plackers you should do what I did for the short time I used them and tie some dental floss to the front of the device where there's sort of a shallow dip. Leave that hanging out of your mouth. That way you can yank it out of your throat before it goes too far down - that is, if you wake up in time.

Well, all I can say is that you are a trusting person. I've tried them on both my upper and lower teeth and had them 'roam' around in my mouth after being asleep for a couple of hours. You can see how this can happen because they are very thin/minimal - IMO they can easily slip out of place and either side can start to slide down your throat (as happened to me not once, but twice). Note their thin profile and short sidewalls adjacent to the molars in the link below:

I have no reason to embroider the truth and am not accustomed to doing that - I think most people on this forum trust me and accord me a certain respect for truthfulness. The fact that I nearly swallowed mine was clearly a warning that I had to address for myself and therefore put out as a warning in general to this forum. Whether there have been any lawsuits is something I'm not capable of addressing but there are certainly folks on this forum who could find that out. It's not impossible that my experience was a 'one off'' and I'm sure many people use Plackers with no ill effects, however my gut tells me that one should proceed with caution.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Re: Grinding Teeth More now
No doubt in my mind that you had that experience - I should say I can't see how I could swallow it. But again, I could just be tempting fate here. I've got a really small mouth and that probably has something to do with them staying put. I'll certainly keep your advice in mind and if I do have a problem, I'll be sure to post it, just as you have, so others may be aware. Thanks again.Sir NoddinOff wrote:Scootergirl wrote:Sir NoddinOff wrote: I wear it on my top teeth as recommended and it's not going anywhere as far as I can tell. But thanks for the warning. Re: Grinding Teeth More now
Here's the one that I was going to use if I had to go that way, a little more expensive than some:
http://www.smartguardnightguard.com/order-now.html
But I've been able to unclench in other ways, just by unclenching during the day. I assume that this worked for me since I have no history of clenching, but started when I started cpap in what seems to have been an unconscious effort to keep my mouth closed at night. My teeth were getting sore, so I looked around and found that teeth clenching was a possible cause (after having gone to the dentist and being told that there was nothing wrong that they could see that would cause the sore teeth). Anyways, much better, no perceptible pain, now that I'm consciously unclenched. This apparently carries over for me into unconsciousness...
