Good going! Sick with it, Latinist!

I'm new, so I dont have much to offer other than encouragement, but I can tell you that my worst day on CPAP is better than my best day without.

Keep on hosing!

Traveled over the weekend and had a couple of really bad nights in a strange bed and without my trusty memory foam pillow. Of course by "really bad" I mean that my AHI was less than a tenth what it was untreated, so you have to keep that in mind. But last night I was back home in my own bed and these were my results:

Yes, the leak line is ugly; but my AHI was lower and I feel better. Tonight I'm going to make up a pad to use with my QuattroAir; I am beginning to think that I will have to try a different mask, though. I'm considering trying the new AirFit P10, especially since it has free return insurance on cpap.com. I've been told I breath out through my mouth, but I might be able to unlearn it…or use a chin strap.

Update: had a "Mask Refit" appointment today. Tried a bunch of masks and the one that seemed to work best, at least in the office, was the F&P Forma. The chin support will help, I think. They let me keep my Quattro Air, too, so I can always fall back on that one if the new one doesn't work.

After developing a new cleaning regimen and tightening down the bottom of my Quattro Air to the extent that it left marks, I finally managed to put two night together in a row with no leaks over 24L/min. I've been seeing means in the twenties and spending about 25% of every night with leaks over 24L/min. Combined with a decrease in EPR on Pugsy's suggestion, I got my AHI into the 5-7 range. I think I'll need an increase in minimum IPAP, but I'm going to wait a few days to see the effect of the new mask.

So the Forma didn't work out. Caused jaw pain that I couldn't ignore, so I went back to my Quattro Air. Yesterday I got my brand new AirFit P10 from cpap.com and had an excellent night: 95% leak of 0 L/min and AHI of 4.9. It was my best night ever for leaks and my second best for events. Here are my results:

I will keep the Quattro Air as my backup mask, but I think I just might have found the mask for me.

Still rocking the AirFit P10. In the past three days my 95th %ile leaks have been 0.0 L/min., 2.0 L/min., and 0.0 L/min. My nares are a little sore, but I'm feeling pretty good otherwise. I've had absolutely no issues with mouth breathing; it seems my mouth-breathing issues were actually my gasping for breath due to apnea.

As an aside, even before this switch to nasal pillows, CPAP has had a very noticeable and unexpected positive effect upon my tongue of all things. For several years I have struggled with hyperkeratosis on the sides of my tongue: persistent, painful white patches and swelling. That has entirely cleared up, with the troublesome white patches replaced by fresh, pink tongue with taste buds! The problem mut have been caused by mouth breathing all along!

Three years ago when I started CPAPING I was lucky to get a Resmed S9 Elite machine but after 3 months I wanted an APAP machine. It was too late for a Medicare exchange. So I paid from my pockets $850 for a new S9 Autoset and I did present my Sleep Doc Rx for it. IMO, I would NOT have achieved such a superb treatment from any other maker of CPAP machines, especially b/c of the availability of Resmed ResScan software. I dislike SleepyHead and its creator.

See here a recent full year data of my treatment:

To each her own. I'm glad you've found software that works for you. Personally, I've found nothing in ResScan that I could not view more easily and customizably in SleepyHead. I've also found JediMark very helpful and I am appreciative of his efforts. When a bug in 0.9.4 resulted in incorrect display of statistics with short sessions, he pushed out a fix in hours. Recently he implemented two new features for ResMed users at my request which will appear in the next version of SleepyHead.
