Anyone seen the Jaw Surgeon Dr. Sabine Girod at Stanford?

Post by IheartCPAP » Tue Apr 29, 2014 6:31 pm

Has anyone seen the surgeon Dr. Sabine Girod at Stanford? She's a jaw surgeon who primarily focuses on functional/aesthetic surgery but I understand she has some experience with sleep apnea.

Her bio looks great. Are you going to see her for MMA?

Her bio does look great! She's an ENT, DDS, jaw surgeon, and plastic surgeon (and obviously very very smart and talented). I've been a Stanford sleep center patient for 11 years, and this thread is the first time I've heard about Dr. Girod. She has the perfect background, but there's not much information about her work performing jaw surgery specifically addressing sleep apnea. My search only yielded lecture notes from a 2009 presentation where she referenced the phase I/II approach including UPPP. (IMHO UPPP should be avoided at all costs). My understanding was Dr. Capasso is part of the Stanford Sleep Center and performs MMAs addressing SBD. Many patients also get surgery evaluations from Drs. Powell/Riley/Schendel or Dr. Li. (all are "Out of Network", making their visits/surgical services quite expensive.)

It would be great to have an "In Network" option with an experienced well trained sleep apnea surgeon.

Yes, going to see her for MMA (for sleep apnea).

Hi "wut," I actually met with Dr. Capasso. My understanding is he just does the septoplasty and not the MMA. He referred me to a colleague of his at Stanford for the MMA that I met with, Dr. Stanley Liu. Dr. Liu is pretty young though, probably mid 30s and has only been the lead surgeon on 30 MMA surgeries. He seems very bright, but I"m not comfortable going with a surgeon that early in his career.

I met with Dr. Kasey Li and most likely will have him do my surgery, but I'm considering meeting with Girod to see if it's a possibility. Going with Li will cost me $20,000 more compared to Girod, but I'm thinking it's worth it because I hear Li is the best of the best. No doubt would be great to have an excellent in-network sleep surgeon.

30 is good enough for a young and bright surgeon. Can you let us know how many MMAs have Girod performed? Thanks in advance.

Please let us know how things go. I'm interested in going this route for my treatment of OSA, TMJD, and other orthodontic issues.

Yep, I'll report back on how the surgery goes...probably going to need 6 months of braces so will have the surgery towards the end of this year.

I've got an initial consult with Girod next month. I'll report back on how many MMAs for sleep apnea she has done.

I've got my study model consult with my orthodontist 5/14. Braces starting shortly after.

I'll let you know when I talk to my ortho in a week or so; usually 12-14 months for most folks though. I'll have to have a consult with the oral surgeon too; just to make sure of what the ortho recommends and make sure I'm a good candidate for surgery. That will also dictate the course of treatment with the braces.

If I can fix the orthodontic issues and the OSA in one shot; why not?

What's wrong with her jaw?
