Sugar is the demon in our diets. Eliminating just this ONE thing will have profound effects on your health. Sugar is hidden in nearly every processed food, so it's a challenge, to be sure (With a simple solution--Just Eat Real Food, almost nothing from a box, can, package, or bottle).

I've done it for the past 2.5 years. It's not always easy, but I feel 1000% better.

I just quit drinking soda and lost 45 lbs in about 6 months without any other changes to my diet or exercise. Less sugar made a big difference bad feelings much better.

Instead of using a sugar bowl, I now use Poo Bears Honey Pot. Jim

I totally agree. My weight loss doctor also shared with me the fact that two people can have the same BMI, but the one who eats refined sugar is more likely to get sick more often and much more likely to develop cardiovascular disease. He also recommends eating honey sparingly, claiming that our ancestors probably didn't each much honey because they got stung while trying to retrieve the honey.

Sugar is an insidious kind of poison that harms our body and rots our teeth.

Sugar and sugar substitutes make you have food cravings that you don't have when you don't eat refined sugar. You will also notice that the natural flavor of the food comes through better. For example, I used to eat low fat peanut butter, which had a lot of sugar in it to compensate for the lack of fat. I have now switched to Kroger natural peanut butter with no added sugar or other ingredients and am truly tasting the peanuts in the peanut butter (I use the crunchy kind). I simply stir it up after opening it and stick it into the refrigerator. Fruit has natural sugar in it, and it's fine, but even so, eating a moderate amount of fruit is advisable. Once you get used to eating without sugar, you feel better, look better, don't have those food cravings, and find that if you do eat something with sugar in it, you seem to lose energy after first feeling that sugar rush. Try it for a month and see how you like it. Once you get used to it, you'll never go back.

Yes, I find this is true of processed gains too. My kryptonite is bread. I love bread. I should avoid bread. It's my precious.

Janknitz' advice to eat "almost nothing from a box, can, package, or bottle" is a really good tenet for eating responsibly.

Honey is sugar, too. So is maple syrup and most especially agave syrup (which is nothing more than fructose dressed up to make you think it's good for you--it's NOT). It doesn't matter what form you eat it in, sugar is not beneficial for your health.

And watch out for "Dehydrated Cane Juice"
