got my mask fitting perfect

Post by space45 » Wed Apr 09, 2014 11:15 pm

went to the local fabric store and found some single and double sided Velcro. that is some great stuff

for a few buck, well I did my usual nuts things and spent $45 but who is counting, I could have got like $2 or $3, not sure what the minimum was most likely $5 I would guess as I did not ask. a ton less then I sent. also got some fabric for making strap socks, but do not seem to be needed yet, and a boat load of different size elastic like to top of mens shorts, every thing was in black. also not needed yet

I cut and splice to extend the section going up behind the ear with the double sided Velcro, that is real important, as it really pays off for fit, at least for me it did. then a 3.5 inch one or so single sided Velcro over the top strap, but doing a loop to shorten it to get it up off my ears, that was a real pain, literally. the top straps that come with the mask were connected to the new double sided Velcro and not in line with the strap section going to the mask. made a strap for under the chin to hole things down and it was wonderful, real solid. the mask is or was a Quattro FX with a medium strap.

it really pays to mod your strapping if you have maxed out all other options for getting a good fit. not one stitch of sawing or any gluing and real quick. if not careful you could make things worst

sorry no crazy rants or ideas this time, just some usable info that might help someone. it sure made a difference in fit and leaks for me, at least in testing it did, the real test will be tonight.

can post pix if interested, with the high pressure I was running it stretched out the mask to where all the stretch was gone. did not last 10 days, well even a week it was not good.

Good job!

While there are masks that don't work, there are some that almost work and will work after a little mod is needed to get the correct pull of the mask to each persons face. Other than a mask that will not seal, I have found that in many cases a person can push on the mask at a particular point and find that sweet spot where everything works.

I always applaud anyone who comes up with ideas to improve their therapy and the more posts there are of these types of homegrown fixes the more people will explore different ways to make the CPAP life better and not just accept the way a manufacturer provides an item.

Also, it doesn't matter if something similar has already been posted as people come and go and don't always read every post, I'm sure a lot of people zone out on my stuff, so keep up the good work.

Congratulations! Yes, please post pictures or send them to me individually. I'm thinking of trying a modification myself.
