PR Series 60 Humidifier Question
PR Series 60 Humidifier Question
I just got a new Phillips Respronics PR System One Series 60 Heated Tubing machine (REF 560P) and I have a question about the humidifier settings.
Heated Tube Humidification ON...OFF If you turn this setting to on the next display goes away which says :
System One Humidification, and says that it automatically controls the humidity. Should I turn the Heated Tube Humidification OFF and use the System One automatic control or turn Heated Tube Humidification ON and set the Humidifier manually ?

Re: PR Series 60 Humidifier Question
It's really what works best for you.
With heated tube humidification on you set the humidity level in the clinicians menu and then adjust the tube heat with the thumbwheel.
I have tried it both ways and really don't know which I like best.

Re: PR Series 60 Humidifier Question
Humidity and air temperature needs or wants are highly individual.
I happen to like/need as much humidity as I can get and I want it year round but I don't like the colder temps in the winter since my bedroom temp usually takes a big dive in the winter and in the summer I do happen to like colder air temps.
So I like having the ability to use the same humidity year round with the ability to adjust temperature of the air coming to my nose depending on the season.
So I like the heated hose thing a lot. It keeps humidity delivered fairly constant and I can vary the air temp in the hose to suit my own needs.
With the PR System One default humidifier setting when not using the heated hose attached...even at maximum setting I found it didn't offer the humidity that I like to use.
It can be turned off and go back to Classic Mode but that greatly increases rain out chances and that's annoying because then I have to deal with a hose cozy or whatever...so my preference is for heated hose year round so that I can get the most humidity and alter air temp to my nose as needed.

Re: PR Series 60 Humidifier Question
So if you like a lot of humidity run with Heated Tube Humidification ON (which takes away System one humidification selection), then adjust Humidity Level and Tube Temperature?

Re: PR Series 60 Humidifier Question
I'm finding that it sometimes pays to read many different posts, even if they are on the periphery of your interests. I’m glad I found this one because I’d totally forgotten about PR's 'classic humidifier mode' which runs the humidifier at much higher humidity levels (I've got a Hybernite hose in the closet, so no problem with rainout).
The reason I need more humidity, is that a few months ago I switched from nasal masks to my Quattro FX, this means more mouth breathing. As a result, I've not been getting enough humidity to keep my throat moist which gives me a terrible dry mouth and throat. Classic Mode to the rescue!!!
Here’s how to do it with PRs: I used the setup clinician's menu on my PR S1, went to System One Humidifier line, clicked the thumb wheel and turned the wheel until the LCD display said 'off' (it requires a leap of faith). Immediately up popped the 'classic mode menu' on the line below - I then selected C3, which is the middle range. Push the button wheel to enter your changes.
I'll make sure tonight to totally fill up my tank and hopefully I'll wake up in the morning with a nice moist throat and no more Sahara mouth

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Re: PR Series 60 Humidifier Question
I agree with Pugsy. She advised me to ask for a heated hose during my first month on xPAP when I had severe congestion from the cold air going up my nose. I will not sleep without my heated hose, the warm air feels so good.

Re: PR Series 60 Humidifier Question
As promised above, I tried PRs 'Classic Mode' for the humidifier last night, and as I'd hoped, it worked great. I used almost a whole tank of distilled water but it was worth it - my mouth and throat felt normal the next day even tho I did a considerable amount of mouth breathing. One can feel the humidity opening up the sinuses too, which was a bonus I didn't expect.
Hey, FFM users with PR machine who've got dry mouths all night long, give it a shot, it doesn't cost anything to try it. See my note above on how to get into the 'classic mode'.

Re: PR Series 60 Humidifier Question
I do not have a heated hose, but I am supposed to have Heated Humidification on my system one - it never feels heated though. I'm glad you started this thread - I don't really know too much about my humidifier.
