New cpaper

Post by dragon672 » Tue Apr 08, 2014 6:47 pm

Greetings everyone. I haven't been here in quite a while well at least not logged in. Anyway my mom after months, years of trying to get her to get tested. She finally took a sleep test at home and she went and picked up her machine on Friday. She has the same machine as I do but a different mask. She's using a Nuance nasal pillows and I don't know how to help her. They are leaking some but when I checked everything in sleepyhead it looks good to me. What hurts her is that she is still having to get up in the night and readjust everything; plus right now because of her dry eyes she's also wearing a patch over one eye at night.

Leaks are around 75 on sleepyhead. So any suggestions from those with nasal pillows would be great. I tried letting her use one of my masks last night.....it didn't work that well for her and her AHI was 2.34.

Any chance she is doing some mouth breathing when she's in that 75 L/min territory?
What pressure is she using?

I agree with Pugsy that you need to check first for mouth leaking.

Next, go to my blog for tips on fitting the Swift FX. I know it's a different mask, but the same fitting principles apply:
1. Fit it with her lying down, NEVER sitting up.
2. Fit it with the machine blower on so that the nasal pillows are fully inflated.
3. Keep the straps as loose as possible, just tightened enough to stop leakage (if they have to be very tight, you may need a different (usually larger) size nasal pillow).
4. Double check for leaks in her favorite sleeping position(s).
