You didn't post your numbers, your age, your weight, your other health factors, etc. BUT....

Since you yourself are using CPAP there is a strong chance you will need to use it for the rest of your life.

And that is before even considering your family.

Sometimes surgery or weight loss can get people "off the machine" but don't expect to get rid of the need easily.

Yes: "Racial studies and chromosomal mapping, familial studies and twin studies have provided evidence for the possible link between the OSAS and genetic factors, and also most of the risk factors involved in the pathogenesis of OSAS are largely genetically determined. A percentage of 35-40% of its variance can be attributed to genetic factors. It is likely that genetic factors associated with craniofacial structure, body fat distribution and neural control of the upper airway muscles interact to produce the OSAS phenotype."

You don't say what your untreated AHI is, but if it is over 30 and OSA runs in the family, then yeah, you're probably much gonna be a hosehead no matter what. Of course, that is statistically speaking, but people aren't statistics, so your experience will be whatever it is.

Both my son and I have sleep apnea...... and my daughter is in denial. My friends 4 sons all use the machine. I would agree that familial anatomy has a lot to do with it.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I've about 95% sure my dad passed away from sleep apnea. I was diagnosed in late '06, my sister gas been in denial a couple years about her sleep apnea and refuses treatment. So I do believe it is hereditary to a degree.

It is almost certain that there is no genetic transmission from your Aunt's husband to you.
Assuming the usual marital rules have been followed
