APAP - switching from s8 to s9

Post by lovemyapap » Tue Apr 01, 2014 2:50 pm

I have been using my S8 for 8 years about . I have used the s9 for about 10 minutes and could not get comfortable. Any suggestions? I have all the pressure settings the same.

Can you be any more specific about what's uncomfortable? The S9 has settings you can enter for certain masks to supposedly achieve the right balance of therapy - have you looked at the manual and machine to see if your machine could have been set up for a different one than you use, or if you can enter a setting for your mask?

I switched from an S8 to an S9 and the difference was amazing. I'll bet some settings are different in the S9. Do you know what your S8 settings were?
What model S9 do you have?

When I last tried it it was about a month ago. I will try again tonight and give you more specifics but the best I can recall is I just cannot get a normal breathing rhythm. Like the pressure wasn't normal. I recall trying to up the pressure some and not having much success. I do see this has EPR I'm not sure the vantage does? The clinical menu on the Vantage only gave me a max and minimum and a max settling. The s9 seems to have more menu options and I'm wondering what I need to set them to so that they are like an s8. Should I have epr on or off? What level? I'm guessing these might be the main difference im noticing? Any suggestions are great. Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest turning EPR off.

If your S8 Vantage didn't have EPR or if you didn't use it on the S8, then it could be that EPR is what's making you feel like you can't get a normal breathing rhythm going with the S9 AutoSet. For what it's worth, way back when I was a newbie, I could never really get comfortable breathing with the S9's EPR algorithm either----there was a very small, very subtle increase in pressure before I felt like I was finished exhaling. It used to drive me crazy.
