Script for auto cpap

Post by Al N » Thu Mar 27, 2014 7:40 am

I just had another sleep study done last week. The Dr had talked about trying bipap since my pressure was so hi 18 and I still wasn't sleeping well or awaking refreshed. The tech started out at a pressure of eight on bipap. I felt like I couldn't breathe so I asked her to turn the pressure up. She turned it up to ten. I still was having trouble breathing and even when I took my mask off then I couldn't breathe. I should add I guess I should add couldn't breathe through my nose, I where a swift fx. The tech said it was from the bipap so she switched it to cpap. Which didn't really help much if at all. I finally did get to sleep. The next morning she had changed my pressure setting to twelve. The dr wrote me out a new script as I had asked him for one with a pressure setting of 12. I had asked him for a script for auto in his office before the study and he had agreed. I changed my current machine setting on my own but when my DME called she said the dr had wrote the script for the new machine at pressure of straight twelve and she couldn't give me an auto like we had talked about. I was wondering if that is in fact true. It sounds reasonable she called the dr and tried to get him to prescribe an adjustable setting but he didn't want to until he saw me. I was curious as to just how the script needed to be wrote out for auto.

To get an auto machine without a hassle the script needs to say a range of pressures...something as simple as a setting of say 10 to 14 would get the auto.

Thanks I thought it sounded right just wanted to make sure. With such a big change a would think he would want to leave it open at least a little bit. I have an apt in six weeks so I can talk to him then thanks a lot for the help

I would and have research exactly which machine I want. Then have the doctor write the prescription detailing the exact brand and model along with heated hose humidifier, fine filters, and exact mask preference.
Then include the phrase fill exactly as written.

Do not leave any wiggle room for the DME to switch you to anything other than what you want. Also from sleep study to new machine I was less than 2 weeks both times. You need to be vocal to get what you want.

Any doctor or dentist can write the prescription. If yours is not cooperative, find one who is.

Also ask the doctor to specify therapy data, especially leak--in numeric format.
