Oral appliance with CPAP

Post by newpapper » Mon Mar 24, 2014 2:38 pm

Does anybody have thoughts on using CPAP at the same time as an oral appliance to move the jaw forward?
Could this allow the possibility of lower pressures being used?

Hi newpapper,

This may be what you are thinking of:

To find a sleep medicine dentist in your area who would do this type of therapy, I would go to this site if you are interested in pursuing this further.

Also, if you go to http://www.apneasupport.org/sleep-apnea ... n-f20.html and PM a poster who goes by sleepdent, he may be able to provide more information. He has always been very helpful when I have asked him questions.

Yes, it is my understanding using this type of treatment can lower the pressure but of course, I am not an expert.

I am sleeping with CPAP & an oral appliance to move my teeth back into place. This will be followed by a permanent retainer to keep them there. My teeth moved as a result of CPAP (pressure at the time was 19cm).

I almost lost my front teeth due to this movement. Someone here suggested a retainer, I discussed with my dentist who said the damage was way past that stage & sent me to an orthodontist. I'm in the middle of my $4,800 braces/orthodontic work - using Invisalign on bottom, combo appliance on top with wires hooked to braces on back. I would recommend anyone with moving teeth see your dentist before you have as much damage as mine. Not only is this expensive, its painful too.

Thank you 49er and Jencat. Several things to think about with this.
