Hello, I was diagnosed with OSA about 7 years ago. I was given a resmed s8 I believe with humidifier and I was able to get use to the pressure and headgear but the problem has been dry mouth. I haven't used it but very sporadiacally over the last 3 years maybe once or twice a month so I got a new doctor went thru all the sleep studies and started over again. I now have this new machine (Philips REMstar Auto A-Flex) with the humidifier and heated tubing. I am set at 8 to 10 auto with a Flex of 2 (not sure what that means but apparently it worked well during my study). I don't have the exact model but I have the basic nasal pillows with a chin strap to keep my mouth closed ( I've been thru about 5 full face and 3 partial face masks over the years trying to eliminate my dryness). I do take dymista for allergies as well as lipitor for cholesterol and xyzal for allergies as well. I tried the xylimelts, and lemon water, but afetr about 2 hours my mouth is like a dry desert and pastey. I was wondering other peoples success or failure with this machine and I would also like to know if there is software I can use to read the data off this memory card? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Can't anyone make a mask that I wouldn't rip off my head as soon as I awake?
Re: New setup Philips REMstar Auto A-Flex
If your have the heated hose you likely have the
PR System One 60 Series Auto CPAP machine ...model 560
and the humidifier choice in the equipment menu would be PR System One 60 Series Heated tube humidifier with heated tube.
You might want to update your equipment profile when you get a chance to avoid confusion later
If you look in my signature line you will see links to SleepyHead and information on how to install and use that software.
If you want the Respironics software send me a private message and tell me what operating system is on your computer.
EncoreGuide link this will show you examples of what you will see. For a different machine than yours but the basics are the same.

Re: New setup Philips REMstar Auto A-Flex
Thanks Pugsy, You tell me which software I should use? My doctor went over all the data and graphs with me from my sleep study and while I'm sure there can't be that much data, I'd like to be able to analyze what I can. I see the sleepyhead software I'll send you a PM for the other software and try both and see what works best I guess. Many thanks

Flats,
What do your leaks look like with the nasal pillows/chin strap? It's possible you are still having some leaking from the mouth.
What humidifier/temp setting are you using with that heated hose? It could be you just need more humidity than the current setting(s) provide.
And:
Side effects of xyzal include: dry mouth

Re: New setup Philips REMstar Auto A-Flex
Use whichever software you like the best...or use both. No reason you can't.
If you have the heated hose (it has a black end where it attaches to the humidifier) you will need to go into the clinical setup menu to verify humidity setting unless you saw the DME person set it up for you.
When using the heated hose the only way to alter humidity delivered is in the clinical setup menu. You have 3 choices...1, 2 and 3...70 %, 80% and the setting of 3 at 90%.
When not in the clinical setup menu and just using the knob on the machine to turn up or down the settings from 1 through 5 all you are adjusting is temperature of the air and not humidity delivered...again this is if you have the heated hose attached.
When using nasal only mask with mouth uncovered...the amount of humidity delivered isn't going to help dry mouth because it isn't going to the mouth.
Even when using a full face mask there's no guarantee that the humidity delivered by the humidifier will be enough to adequately rehydrate the mouth. It all depends on how dry and what the cause i.e. meds or mouth breathing.
