Drool causing FFM leaks?
Drool causing FFM leaks?
I've been having trouble getting my FFM to stop leaking at the sides of my mouth. I think I've found the culprit!!! I've always drooled quite a bit, but since I'm a constant mouth breather I figured it was normal. Now I'm finding that the moisture is what may be causing my mask leaks
Anyone deal with anything similar? Any possible solutions?

Mask liners...they will absorb the moisture and add a bit of comfort.

I picked up a padacheek one, and it made it almost impossible to seal. The mask just slid all over the place.Pugsy wrote:Mask liners...they will absorb the moisture and add a bit of comfort.
I do have a remzzzs sample to try that I havnt gotten around to yet.

This might sound goofy but when I was wearing my mirage FX ffm, I would have a better seal if I pursed my lips while putting my mask on; of coursed I relaxed them after getting everything hooked up.

I have tried that, and have had some success that way, but I have very oily skin, and before too long the cushion doesn't stick very well anymore. I even went as far as to shave my goatee to see if that would help, and no dice.Nozzelnut wrote:This might sound goofy but when I was wearing my mirage FX ffm, I would have a better seal if I pursed my lips while putting my mask on; of coursed I relaxed them after getting everything hooked up.
I do have a call into my DME about trying a different mask, but I feel like the same thing will keep happening.

hmmm I'm a "drooler" with a FFM too.
Pad-a-cheek liners soak up the drool and solved any related leaks
hope you find a solution!

Re: Drool causing FFM leaks?
A new mask might help. Regarding moisture, I was using my Quattro FX FFM months ago and noticed that I was getting leaks late at night. I pulled the mask off and with my finger noted that there was condensation, not drool, in the frown lines at the creases of the my mouth. The next day I ordered a Padacheek liner and it solved the problem completely. Also turning down my humidifier temperature level a few notches. The moisture doesn't have to be drool, just a bit of condensation is enough to get 'mask farts' and major leaks.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Have you ever tried a fabric mask?

While I highly doubt my DME would give me such a mask, it looks very interesting, and like something that would fit my sleep style well. Any experience with it?chunkyfrog wrote:Have you ever tried a fabric mask?

Re: Drool causing FFM leaks?
Are you washing the seal every day? The only piece that absolutely should be cleaned on a daily basis no matter what, is the seal of the mask. Especially on ResMed masks like the Quattro, if you have oily skin. Soap and water is all you need. Also, since you have oily skin, do you wash your face every night before bed? This is important to being able to maintain a very good seal for someone with oily skin.alpha752 wrote:I have tried that, and have had some success that way, but I have very oily skin, and before too long the cushion doesn't stick very well anymore. When you are eligible to get a new mask, you should try the new Simplus full face mask from Fisher & Paykel. It just came out recently, but I have never had a mask seal so well and easily on multiple people at varying pressures.
