Help needed with AHI and mask problems
Help needed with AHI and mask problems
I was using an Aloha mask for a long time. My AHI was running about 1.3 consistently. I have been trying the new AirFit P10. Since using that mask, my AHI has gone up to at least 2.3 to 3.3. Do I need to make an adjustment with my machine and up my pressure or should I stop using the AirFit? I like the AirFit but I do feel that sometimes I am not getting a lot of air. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Re: Help needed with AHI and mask problems
you probably know it that AHI up to 5 is NORMAL, meaning NO indication of sleep apnea. So why not give those masks a try?
I am using a mask similar to Mirage Activa and have lots of air. My one complaint is air blowing into my eyes. I use Systane Gel by Alcon as eyes lubricant.

Re: Help needed with AHI and mask problems
I wouldn't do a change in pressures based on such a small variation in AHI. It simply is not warranted.
I also wouldn't do a change based on AHI alone even if it was higher than 5.0 until I evaluated the event category breakdown of that AHI. If most of the increase is related to clear airway (central) events more pressure won't fix it anyway.
And if I liked the mask and was sleeping great with it and feeling good...I wouldn't stop using it just because AHI went up a little.
Not getting enough air feeling? I get that sometimes with my AirFit and found it was related to the nasal pillow size and I went up from the XSmall to the Small and pretty much eliminated the issues. The XSmall sealed a bit too good and sometimes when I inhaled my nostrils got sucked in and closed off. Pulling the mask away briefly to reseat the inner cones opened things up immediately but it was annoying waking up with the nostril collapsed and no air moving.
