Is it normal to feel tired and not so good again

Post by Renee71 » Thu Mar 13, 2014 3:35 pm

I received my CPAP machine on February 24th and have been using it faithfully every night since. I was starting to feel really good the last week or so. I was working out every day, waking up feeling better. I check every day and last night my AHI was 1.8 and the night before my AHI was 0.1 so it is working. Today I just feel horrible. I am tired, I just don't feel well. I kind of feel like I am at the beginning again. I have been feeling a rapid heartbeat off and on even though I took my pulse at one time it was only 78. I'm not sure what is going on. Is this normal to have a little set back like this? I don't feel like I am sick or anything just feel extremely tired today.

It happens to me too. In my case, just because my AHI is low doesn't mean I actually got much sleep, because sleep apnea is just one part of the sleep disorder equation.

One night means nothing much, but if it continues, there are many factors that could be involved, from the 'wrong' mask for you, to pressure settings, to how much sleep you're getting, what you eat (and acid reflux is a common problem even if you're not aware of it), etc. etc. What machine - model # please too - and mask are you using?

interestingly enough, I have battled this for a bit and my new doctor said that it's possible that you're having events that the machine doesn't detect. I've been really struggling so she increased the pressure a bit and said that if that didn't work, we may redo the sleep study with some sort of day time sleepiness test. Since she seems to be genuinely interested in my comfort and health, if this pressure change doesn't help, I'm going to try her suggestion of another test. One issue is that I had the first one done by a different doctor who I no longer trust and I think she's thinking that if this isn't working, she wants to do the test to ensure that it was done correctly. Under the circumstances, I don't blame her.
