Windows 8 screenshot

Post by Cr1kk1t » Thu Mar 06, 2014 9:34 pm

How do you get a screenshot in windows 8?
I tried downloading a snipit tool but it put a bunch of garbage on my computer and I had to remove it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Snip It Add on tool for Windows explorer looks to be for text.

I think you want the Snipping Tool and it should already be on your computer...check out your All Programs/Accessories
The Snipping Tool is for screenshots. It's normally included in Vista and newer computers unless the most basic version.
It should be there unless they did the same thing with Windows 8.xxx and don't put it on the very Basic Windows 8

The good oil' way still works...

1. Select the window you want to capture.

2. Use the key combination <ALT><Printscreen>. This copies the selected window onto the clipboard.

3. Bring up the "paint" program.

4. Paste from the clipboard onto the paint background.

5. Save your screenshot as a file.

I guess that I've done this enough that it's really simple *smile*.

I can't even find the accessories file on my computer. And no snipping tool. But the windows key and printscreen buttons worked great. Now I can post my sleepyhead screenshots. YAY!!! Despite a decent AHI, my sleepyhead looks terrible.

I haven't seen Windows 8 at all. With all the new fancy stuff they came up with they may not have Accessories and all the old stuff we are used to seeing.

With Windows 8, to find a program, you can hit the Windows key and then just start typing. So windows key and then typing "snip" will bring up a search list with the Snipping tool at the top. Then just hit enter and it'll launch.

I have Windows8 and to make a screenshot, I launch the screen I want to look at then hit "print screen" key, then minimize the window you took the screen-shot of, and launch Paint. When paint opens, hit Control V and your screen-printed page pops up into the screen. Then just save it to your photo file and give it a title so you can find it next time.
I am not very computer-literate but this works for me.

That's the way I used to do the screen shots until I got Vista computer a while back and discovered the Snipping Tool and I ad made thousands using Paint. It's been so long now I am not sure I can even do it that way now.
It sounds like a lot of work but when someone is used to using it we can get screen shots saved in almost the same amount of time as with the Snipping Tool.

If you use Dropbox, there's no need to use any other program (like Paint). And, if you're not using Dropbox, start. After all, you normally want to post your screenshots to a website, right?

When you have Dropbox installed, all you have to do is printscreen like normal, then go to Dropbox. There will be a folder already there called screenshots. That's all you need.

Start8 from Stardock gives you back the Windows 7 "Start" button in the lower left hand corner. Of course, it costs $5, and the logo on it is the Windows 8 logo instead of "Start", but I can't tell you how much time it has saved me. I went without it for the first couple of months that I had Windows 8 just to see what Windows 8 was all about and prove to myself that I could do that. After doing that and getting pretty good with Charm bars, etc., I gave in, got Start8, and it really makes things a lot easier. With Start8, you'll find Accessories in the usual place, under "Windows Accessories" in the same place as the old Windows 7 "Start" menu. Makes the hybrid system that Microsoft released back into a system that can easily be used on a desktop.

Alternatively "printscreen" and then paste to Word and save.

I have no idea about DropBox or Snippit. I am not a technophobe, sorry. But thanks for telling us, maybe some day I will see if I can install it. I have a tendency to crash computers without even thinking about it!! The less I mess with them, the better!!
