Blisters from my new mask.

Post by Mist_ynight » Sun Mar 02, 2014 4:23 pm

I'm wearing a Innomed Hybrid mask and have been for about a year. I just bought a new mask since my old one wasn't working as well as it used to. Last night was the first night I wore it. I used the same straps cause they are adjusted properly and I like they way they fit. I felt fine when I woke up but I've just noticed I have 3 small blisters on my face from the new mask. This never happened when I got my first mask last year. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? I thought about using Vaseline but I'm not sure if it will do anything to my mask or not. Any suggestion are appreciated. I know the blisters are going to break when I put my mask on tonight and I'm not looking forward that

Did you THOROUGHLY wash the mask before you used it?

blisters are caused by friction
friction from you mask moving
you need to readjust your straps
did you loose weight
maybe you didnt need a new mask after all

Where are the blisters at on your face?
Mask area or strap area? The straps can be covered and there are mask liners available for mask area
BUT if a mask causes blisters then something is wrong...it in fitting or in size or both. No mask should cause blisters when it is the right size and fitted right.

When I wore my Comfortgel full face mask, every time I installed a new cushion,
I had to put a small Band aid on my nose for the first couple of nights to prevent blisters
while the cushion was "breaking in"

Yes I have lost weight but I adjust my straps regularly to adjust it. The blisters are where the mask sits. I've had two on my upper lip and one on each side of my cheeks. The mask fits really well. It fits better then my other mask that wasn't sealing as well anymore. I'm getting a really good seal. I adjusted my straps again last night, covered my 3 blisters with band aids and woke up this morning with a new blister on the other side. I'd go back to my old mask but it was waking me up with leaks. I haven't been woken up with leaks the past two nights.

I just found another blister on my chin! This is driving me crazy. The first mask like this I had never gave me ANY trouble like this. It's actually the only mask I found that worked for me, and I've tried several other ones.

Fix yourself a mask liner from an old T shirt.
Use it to protect your skin. Blisters are caused by movement..even tiny movement on the skin.

To give you an idea what a homemade mask liner will look like check out the store bought versions
http://www.padacheek.com/PAC_Maskliners.html will last months and months

Remzzzs...designed mainly for single night use
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/remzzz ... iners.html full face mask

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/remzzz ... iners.html nasal mask

Consider getting some moleskin (foot aisle of store) to add padding to where it is rubbing the skin but the mask shouldn't be moving enough to rub a blister.

Consider a different mask or different size...blisters mean something is not right.

luckliy with this mask you get all 3 sizes of cushions. I'll have to see if I need to down now that I've lost some weight. It shouldn't surprise me, I'm loosing weight everywhere else, I guess my face isn't much different.

Well, see my face in the attached picture. That's what the mask did to my face. (you can keep that picture to scare the roaches out of your house). I tried 4 different mask and got a variety of answers including some pretty nasty ones. The suggestion that worked for me was the nasal pillow. I suspect the cloth may work if you can get it to seal. But, I'm not good with scissors.
