format for sleep studies on CD?

Post by SleepingUgly » Sun Feb 16, 2014 8:17 pm

In what format should I request my sleep studies on CD? Sludge?

Why do you want it? Shouldn't you be concentrating on your current condition using CPAP?

Did you check the CD for some type of setup or other view program to read the data?

It's fairly common for such DCs to be proprietary in format but to come with an app to read, display, and perhaps to print the data.

I am going to ask the doctor for these. They are my raw data that can be looked at in the future by someone else, should the need arise.

Ask if their software has a "Physician Reader" option. If not, then you'll probably need to get a generic *.edf reader (and they will need to save the data file as an *.edf).

I wasn't going to try to look at it, as I won't understand it. I just want it in a format a future doctor could view it.

Also they should be able to "print" you a PDF (paper or electronic version for emailing) of at least the summary report.

That's how I got mine rather than the raw data.

It's pretty common to have a reader program on these data disks since even another doctor or medical center may not have the right program.

My dentist recently gave me the CD for the CAT scan he did of my head -- to take to the ENT for a consult on my airway and sinuses.

It had a program so I installed it and then used that to show the 'films' to the ENT who didn't have the software to load the pictures.

Be sure and tell us how this turns out. I'm betting that they will just give you the disc in whatever proprietary format the software they used, and tell you tough luck, you can't do anything with it unless you have the software. Hope I'm wrong though.

The "Physician Reader" is a "read Only" version of the sleep software (you can look at data but not make edits. The proprietary algorithms are therefore protected, and that's why the software manufacturer will include for free).

So how exactly would I word my request? This doctor is about as computer savvy as I am (possibly less), and doesn't have the benefit of my husband to help him with anything.

I just call the doc's office and ask the girl that keeps the records. No need to bother the doc.

Like someone already mentioned, I don't see why you would want this??? I can imagine a new doc would say I don't want to look at an old study, let's do a new one.

It says you have been a member since 2009. Isn't the important thing how you are doing on CPAP?

I've had several doctors ask to see the raw data from previous sleep studies.

I'm not on CPAP right now, but if I were on pressures I could tolerate without aerophagia, my data would look like someone on too low of a pressure.

The "girl" that keeps the records has probably never encountered *anyone* who has wanted their raw data. That was definitely the case when I asked for mine. It took many phone calls, a HIPPA letter, and a complaint to close the deal.

Did CPAP cause the aerophagia?

Find out what software package(s) they are using. Then we'll figure it out (they need to include the Scoring Masks (aka "The Evidence").
