Where to Find Replacement Filters for Remstar Auto

Post by NeedMoreSleep28 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 3:22 pm

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if there was a cheap easy online alternative to buy disposable and nondisposable filters for a remstar auto? I usually get these from my doctor's office but I feel like I'm being overcharged and it's a 10 mile bike ride away. (I live in Chicago and public transportation does not go there.) Most of the online options I've seen appear to be misleading or low quality knockoff filters. I absolutely do not want to deal with a home care company.

Thanks for any suggestions!

CPAP(dot)COM.

They're the host/provider of this forum.

Thanks for replying! I have another question: I was under the impression that the filters from cpap.com were aftermarket products not made by the original manufacturer and were inferior. Do you have experience using these filters?

The filters sold by cpap.com AND just about every DME these days are GENERIC filters and NOT the brand name filters.

"I" CAN tell the difference between the true brand name ResMed filters I use and the Generic ones. ResMed filters ARE definitely a better quality.

My DME sells primarily Respironics stuff, so they have to order & drop ship to me the ResMed masks, etc. I order. Because of that, I DO always get the sealed in the bag brand name ResMed filters. Not sure how long this will last, but I am taking advantage of it for now. The ResMed brand Hypoallergenic filters I buy come 2 to a pack. You can get 2 per month, but they will provide you with a 3 month supply (6 filters) all at one time. Medicare & most insurers allow this for small items. You can also get 6 mask "cushions" at a time - but remember that you canNOT get any other cushions for 3 months. So, if you are planning on changing masks, don't do that.

Medicare & my BCBS secondary (and probably every other insurer out there) pay the SAME price for the brand name filters & other items as they do for the generic filters, etc. - so INSIST that whoever you buy the filters from provide you with the brand name.

I think it is Pugsy that has been able to get the ResMed brand name filters on E-Bay? You may want to check there for the Respironics filters.

I have no experience with the ones that your machine uses (I have much older Respironics machines), but I have purchased and used filters from CPAP(dot)COM. I would never categorize them as "inferior". Besides, the (name brand) manufacturer probably outsources them from some other manufacturer and puts their name on them. If they're made to OEM specs, they should be the same as or perform the same as those with the manufacturer's name on them.

CPAP(dot)COM is too much of a "class act" to be selling "inferior" products.

The filters protect your machine, not you. You spend 2/3 of your day breathing unfiltered air. Unless your machine has allergies, hypoallergenic filters protect only the profit margin. But I suppose they won't hurt you any, either.

I have bought both name brand and after market filters for both the ResMed and Respironics machines.
Sometimes I think I "might" feel a difference and other times I am not so sure. If there is a difference it is very slight.

But if someone feels better having name brand filters...there is one EBay seller that I buy from who plainly states that what he sells are name brand and they are exactly what he describes. He also offers after market filters. They don't cost as much.

I have been buying PR filters for 4 years, both PR type and aftermarket from cpap.com..... there is NO difference that I can see other than the name on the filter.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I have received filters from CPAP.COM, from my DME, from a supplier on AMAZON.COM, and from an online supplier that specializes in CPAP filters.
Most came with Respironics logo but some didn't.
I couldn't see any functional difference in any of them.

So, check and get the lowest price and be happy.
