I'd love to have a CPAP for off grid camping, not in a RV or luxury cabin but no electricity in a tent camping, who has what & what are the pros & cons & would you buy the same CPAP again ??
Thanks in advance.
A CPAP for camping
Re: A CPAP for camping
How many nights usage do you need? Are you car camping, or do you need something especially lightweight and small?
I use my regular Philips Respironics DS560 Auto-CPAP machine. I use with with a lithium battery pack that can easily give me three nights of usage, including the humidifier (at a fairly low setting). It's not cheap or light (about the size of a laptop, but heavier), but it works great, and can also be used to charge other things.

Also -- looking now, it appears our host cpap.com now also has a lithium battery option for Philips Respironics machines.

The Transcend has a new AutoPAP out that is so small and runs on batteries. It can also be recharged with the Solar Panel they have available. It is a folding mat, and would be very easy to pack.
I hope to get one of those some day.

Re: A CPAP for camping
When I went tent camping, I just used my regular cpap machine without the heated tubing and using the humidifier with water in it in "pass-over" mode (turned off). I also put one of those Resmed cloth tubing snugglies on the slimline tubing that I used to prevent rain-out, since the nights were pretty cold. Down to freezing (32 degrees F).
For power, I had one of the large 12V Li-ion batteries like the one shown by the poster above. I used it for 3 nights, over 6 hours a night, and it still had lots of power left. You can charge the battery, though, while traveling if you need to using an inverter in your car. I didn't have to do that, but I had an inverter with me just in case. Also, I used the Resmed 12V to 24V DC converter to connect the battery to my cpap. It all worked fine, and I was pretty happy with the setup. There was an up-front investment, but I like tent camping so am happy to have all the parts together for next time.

Re: A CPAP for camping
Thanks for the replies, for the most part my camping trips a 4x4, atv or motor cycle is the mode of transportation, but the camp sites are remote & to far out for electricity, I like to travel light & stay as long as possible so a battery or rechargable set up would be perfect.
