Nasal Pillows with pressure at 12
Hello - I just called my supplier and am looking at getting a Resmed for her and it has nasal pillows. She mentioned that higher pressures can't handle the pillows. Any advice if 12 is too much pressure for a pillow?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Nasal Pillows with pressure at 12
Gosh no. Not at all. There are people using ASV machines with pressures over 20 using nasal pillows.
Upper teens straight cpap is quite common. A pressure of 12...not considered high at all.
I don't know where DME suppliers get that notion. It's sad because a lot of people never get to try something that quite possibly could allow them comfortable and effective therapy with minimal leaks or discomfort.
I see 20 cm every day on my reports..sometimes prolonged a bit and sometime just short spikes. I have never used anything but nasal pillow masks....coming on 5 year mark in May.
Now all nasal pillow masks aren't the same and there are some that are easier to manage than others. ResMed has a new one called the AirFit P10...I have been using it lately and it's quite nice.
Super quiet venting if vent noise is annoying to you.
As with any mask out there...lovers and haters but in general the reviews have been mostly positive.
I myself have tried almost all the nasal pillow masks just to say I have tried them...this one I think is going to be fairly popular.

Other choices would be the Swift FX...the Aloha...or the Respironics Nuance...all nasal pillows.
Or even the Tap Pap which is my primary mask and uses no headgear.

I agree with Pugsy on this one, I use the tap pap at pressures of 11 or 12, no problems. Like Pugsy I have used several different pillow masks without a problem. Some DMEs are all wet .

Re: Nasal Pillows with pressure at 12
I am just a beginner but my Airfit P10 Nasal Pillows is at essentially ZERO leaks with a 10.7-median, 12.5 95% and highs of 13.6.
That's not a very high pressure but it's in the range you mention and my leaks were 0-Median, 0-95%, 4.8-Max last night (the max leak probably occurred when I was talking to my wife or repositioning the mask purposely.) This is Resmed S9 machine data.

The Swift FX Nano looks promising as well. In the video Lankylefty buries his face in the pillow with nary a leak.

I wish I didn't mouth leak. I'd be all over this mask.

Re: Nasal Pillows with pressure at 12
Went to my DME today and I got the Airfit p10. I have been struggling with mask leaks since I started 3 months ago. I was also told that with a pressure
of 16 that they would not work. When I got home from work I tried them on and laid in bed for about 2 hours and moved from side to side. 95% leak was 5.2
I had been using ffm all along. I will post tomorrow after sleeping all night long.

Re: Nasal Pillows with pressure at 12
I use the Swift FX pillows with no problem at all at 14 cm H20 in terms of fit. Mind you I've some other issues but they've popped up with every mask I've tried so I don't think it's any one mask. Anyways, The Bella loops are great if you don't have hose snuggies too, they pull a little too loose with the hose snuggies but without the mask is light enough it's great. No more hair getting broken with the straps. But with all the snow storms I'm back to the regular headgear and the hose snuggies to kill any rainout potential. Also they make the hose more cuddle-friendly. I'll be making some cotton ones when the weather's nice for lighter-weight cuddling in summer. And then I could pick cute fabric to match my bedding.
Hope this helps!

Re: Nasal Pillows with pressure at 12
I think it depends on the sensitivity of your sinuses. It might take some getting used to, and its sooooo important to use the right humidity.
Earlier in my treatment, I couldn't go higher than 8 pressure, or it would hurt my sinuses. But now I'm at 9, and it feels fine.........although my sinuses do react to the fairly intense stream of air, by producing mucous.
Digitalepiphany......you could try taping your mouth. A fair number of us do that. (They should have an emoticon of a face with tape over the mouth....hahaha)

Swift fx. Minimum pressure is set at 15.4 and I don't have any trouble at all.

Re: Nasal Pillows with pressure at 12
It kind of depends on your nose, your technique and the nasal pillows you use. In the early days, I was able to get my Swift FXs to work between 16-18cmH20, tho 18 was pushing it a bit. If you venture into that pressure territory just be sure to trim your nose hairs (I'm serious, but for all the ladies out there, I'm sure you don't have such a thing ) I had some other issues with nasal pillows in general, however that's a tale for another day.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
