ResMed S9 AutoSet with H51 Heated Humidifier-no longer need
ResMed S9 AutoSet with H51 Heated Humidifier-no longer need
I used the above for about 8 months before a new sleep doctor suggested using an oral appliance instead of a CPAP machine. So now I have the machine, carry case and supplies and am wondering what to do with all the equipment? Everything is in great condition. I saw some people selling them on Craig's List. Is that the best way to go?

Yes, or you can put it in your closet so you will have one handy after they find the oral appliance doesn't work.

I totally agree with Bobshouse, I would be in no great hurry to get rid of it.

I also agree with the previous posts. I haven't seen anyone post that their oral appliance worked. Even if it partially worked they needed the CPAP at a lower pressure to eliminate AHIs. KEEP THE S9!

Thank you for the suggestions. I have been wondering about that. My new sleep doctor came up with the plan and has so far had me do one additional home study and then one more in the lab using the appliance. He interpreted previous studies in a way that indicated sleep apnea to be mainly a problem when on my back, but if I could stay off my back, viola. I added in the t-shirt with the tennis ball, and that does keep me off my back. I'm about 5 months off the CPAP and actually having more dreams than I used to (just waiting for some really good dreams). The last study with the appliance indicated no snoring too, though I suppose more time would be helpful on that too.

I agree with everybody else to put it in the closet for a few months, however if you sell it cheap you'll get rid of it fast... it's a very popular machine.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

A big fat sigh to the negative responses regarding dental appliances. I definitely understand the caution but to simply flat out say they don't work isn't accurate either.
artz, take a look at this study about the effectiveness of dental appliances. As you can see, an adjustable one works alot better for mostly mild to moderate ranges. vs. severe. in getting the AHI to 5 or below which is considered to be a successful outcome.

Additionally, the sleep medicine dentist who post on the other apnea board has stated that good nasal potency increases the success rates in his experience.
Anyway, why did you chose to switch from cpap to a dental appliance? I would go by what the lab results say as they are usually alot more accurate than home studies.
But as an FYI, even if your AHI is above 5 like around 8, in my opinion, if you are getting better sleep with the dental appliance than you were with the pap machine, I would still see that as a successful outcome.

I am using the SomnoDent Classic & Flex, which is adjustable. I do think it is working based on the study in the lab and from experience. In my situation, the apnea is worst on my back. If I slept on my back, the CPAP would be needed, for sure. However, my sleep doctor said that if I can stay off my back, the apnea is not nearly as bad and could be addressed with the appliance. I'm sure more time will help with the evaluation but for now, it seems to be working. I did have a hard time with the CPAP machine. Maybe my nose/face were too irregular? I have a scar on my nose from using the face mask, and I did get tired of fighting the leaks, despite all types of efforts to address that. One of the biggest changes I've noticed is that I am dreaming way more than I can ever remember.
