Pulling Teeth And Using Machine
Hi, I had a tooth pulled today as emergency, lost blood and don't have other teeth in the area of where my tooth was pulled. Can I use my Bipap (setting 14-18) tonight or do I have to wait a specified time? Dentist said it was ok but don't think he knew much about sleep apnea. My sleep doctor not around for the weekend. Thanks all who answer.

Re: Pulling Teeth And Using Machine
I had a tooth removed with a mallet and chisel and then had teeth bone grafts. I used the CPAP set at 8. My graft took very well.
It might have been that I lucked out.
I would be curious as to your concern.

I'm afraid of the air in my machine causing me to start bleeding again. I'm at 14/18.

Pardon my unawareness, I'm totally serious about this question. Would like to know what others have experienced.

I would call your dentist. There might be many reasons for bleeding.

As I wrote in my first post, my dentist pulled a tooth today, that's why I'm bleeding. I wanted to know if I should use my BiPap tonight.
Re: Pulling Teeth And Using Machine
I would say, imo, that it depends on what your of mask and whether you mouth breath or not. I don't really think it should bother you in actuality. But if you are really worried, here's my take. Nasal masks and pillows shouldn't bother because you don't have air going into your mouth. Now a ffm might mean you mouth breath, but after thinking a little more about it. YES, definitely use your cpap. Air even pressured air shouldn't bother you because the air isn't high enough to cause stitches to rip out or cut to reopen. But you might worry bout the area drying out and causing some discomfort, but only if you mouth breath. So keep your mouth shut and you have no problems.

Can't keep my mouth shut, I'm a lifelong mouth breather. I use the FF Ultra Mirage.
Re: Pulling Teeth And Using Machine
Should be OK to use your machine as the slightly increased pressure will tend to reduce any bleeding unless the air flow is directly onto the tooth removal site. As mentioned it may make the area dry but it should be fine.

Re: Pulling Teeth And Using Machine
I had an upper molar pulled a few years ago and the CPAP (pressure 10-14) blew the tissue between my sinuses and former tooth socket causing an air leak. The dentist had to pack the hole and I had to do without the CPAP therapy for a few days. The dentist had never encountered this previously, but has since added CPAP use to his patient medical questionnaire. My research suggests that my experience is fairly common. Inthe4 future, my dentist will send me to an oral surgion to suture the wound to give it enough strength to resist a CPAP blowout.

(Dentist Here). Don't go to sleep if it's still bleeding. Bite on the Cotten gauze for 30 minute periods. I would suggest not using the cpap, but I don't really know anything about you or your extraction.

Re: Pulling Teeth And Using Machine
The first year I was on cpap I got an abscess and had to have a molar pulled (lower). I was using the Quatro at the time. Not using my cpap machine was not an option - my O2 levels drop to 56% without it. It didn't seem to make a difference.
