Best product to prevent "mask lines" in AM?

Post by SITNSdaisy » Sat Jan 18, 2014 11:24 am

Hi -- wondering what anyone uses to prevent the dreaded crease marks that come with wearing a full face mask (Quattro type). I've been using CPAP for about one week and this AM was the first time -- I quite possibly secured the headgear too tightly last night, but have also seen folks talking about liners etc on this site.

Thanks in advance

Check out padacheeks.com, Karen is a member here and makes comfort stuff for us. She makes mask liners and strap covers that are totally awesome.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I went to a nasal mask and chin strap to prevent mouth breathing. That solve the lines pretty much. Isn't it wonderful to wake up with your wrinkles rearranged every morning!

Lukie -- yes! I was just getting used to the wrinkles the way they were.......I have a nasal mask/chin strap too and will give it a try. Didn't think the chin strap would actually keep my mouth shut.

Nan -- will check out padacheeks.com Thanks. I wish I were so clever!

thanks to both for your replies.

I have several chin straps. The best one is PurSom ruby red chin strap by Care Fusion. Get extra large if you have a big head.

Can you give me your experience with the best thing to order from padacheek to prevent wrinkles? There are so many options.

I wish to say that I find the nasal plugs to work for me and I find them very comfortable.

I check my plots and I don't see an indication of significant leaks.

I also see that the complaints of face masks are endless.

The sizing seems to be S,M, and L. Imagine if shoes were sold that way.

Agree with Sleepy1235. Why do people start with a full face mask?* Start with a Tap Pap or regular nasal pillow mask. I could have saved myself many weeks of aggravation, and for some people, it's years. I mean, geez.
* I know, I know, it's what your doctor (!!??) recommended.

surf -- he first recommended the nasal mask. I could not keep my mouth shut (couldn't exhale nasally against pressure) -- never got as far as using it at night. So I got the FFM. I do have a chin strap and plan to try the nasal mask again, but I am a mouth breather (I've woken up several times with the FFM, mouth wide open). I was advised by some that the chin straps don't actually keep your mouth shut during the night when the impulse to open it takes over.

What helps me is to - in the morning, scrub my face with a wash rag and soap, Then put a good skin oil on my face. Might not get rid of all the wrinkles but sure reduces the lines, and the sometimes red irritation that occurs after the lines.

And of course, Karen - owner of padacheek is well respected here, and I also use her mask liner.

I am also glad to tell anyone who points at them about the spectacular benefits of treating my Sleep Apnea with a machine. So on some level, they do not bother me.

My best "trick" for am mask lines is Neutrogena toner. This seems to fade the lines quickly. By that I mean by the time I leave the house after my "get ready" routine, about 20 minutes.

It depends on you age how fast those "lines" disappear in the mornings! Has nothing to do with creams or fancy stuff lol! Younger skin will bounce back faster. Pad a Cheek is awesome! Karen rocks

I called Karen from pad a cheek last week. I ordered an original (black in color) to use on my chin strap. I used to have lines that lasted for hours and sometimes up to half a day. After using the strap pad now for 3 days, I've had absolutely NO lines on my face from the chin strap. All I have now when I take the mask and chin strap off is a barely detectable pinkish line on my face that is completely gone in 15 minutes. I'll endorse this product, even though I'm no one special.

The Air Fit P10 for her (I assume it comes in a men's as well) allows me to wake line and redness free. I have ultra sensitive skin and no wrinkles so the lines from other headgear really showed.
