BATTERY CPAP

Post by Frankieboy » Sat Jan 18, 2014 5:34 pm

I am looking for a battery-powered CPAP machine. The only one I know of is called "Transcend." Does anyone know about this one or any other type? I do not want to use a converter because the last time I did that the machine died.

All of the current Philips Respironics machines use 12 Volts as their native power supply. Thus, any good 12V battery can be used to make this a battery powered CPAP with very little risk. I would consider it more stable than using regular AC power, which can get hit by surges. (There is of course a risk while charging, but the CPAP can be disconnected then.) There are a large number of suitable batteries, ranging from very portable one night solutions, to large deep cycle batteries (or even banks of them) that can run for a week or more.

In addition, ResMed CPAPs use 24 Volts, and could be powered by a pair of batteries, or a relatively safe 12 to 24 volt converter, available from ResMed.

I would agree that inverters (I assume this is what the OP refers to a "converter") do add some risk, although I've used them almost daily for many years and haven't had a problem.
