Filters are falling out.
Has anyone had problems with their filters falling out? I use a PR System One and nearly every morning I wake up with both filters laying on the night stand behind my machine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Poppa John:
Yes, there is a solution. Get a long rubber band and put it around the whole machine, front to back, and have it cross the filter hole. That will keep them both in all night. The one I use is about five inches long so it doesn't have to stretch very much. It is quite narrow - perhaps 1/8th inch - so the air flow is not restricted very much. The rubber band needs only to be across the filter just a little bit and doesn't need to be centered although that will work just fine.
I believe that what is happening is that you are either coughing during the night or you are exhaling forcefully at least once. The added pressure goes back through the machine and the filters just pop out. It doesn't take very much backflow to pop the filters.

Re: Filters are falling out.
JDS74, Thanks for the reply and the answer to the problem and the answer to why. Yes I have been coughing during the night for about 3 weeks which must be the cause and I should have thought of something so simple as a rubber band.
Again, thanks!
Again, thanks!

Re: Filters are falling out.
this is really caused by the off-brand filters being too large to fit properly. they are not respironics filters are they?
if you have an old respironics filter you could match them up then using scissors trim about 1/16in off the side opposite the tab and give that a try.
i just flat refuse to accept the off-brands from my dme now that i know what is going on.

Actually, this happened to me the first week of my new machine three or so years ago. Nice new Respironics 750P AutoBiPap machine with a real Respironics filter. My DME asked if I realized that the air only gets sucked in through the filter and doesn't ever blow out.
Later I fired them and have been on my own regarding maintenance for the last couple of years.

Re: Filters are falling out.
i stand corrected. the filters for the older M series machines also will not fit correctly and will blow out of the newer machines. the fix is the same as described above. either trim or do not accept from the dme.
