Hello All,
I'm new to the site so first post. I have been on a cpap for going on 5 months now. I was finally diagnosed with severe chronic sleep apnea and had around 110 events during my first sleep study. My sleep doc said that I have probably had it my entire life, and no one thought to say anything about going to sleep doc until I decided to after seeing several other docs for various issues. I am under 30 years old, 60 lbs overweight, and drink too much (all facts I've acknowledged). Since being on the cpap I have noticed some positives such as better recall and a lack of daytime exhaustion. I have really started to try and rein in the drinking (hard to do being still young-ish and having friends that go out a lot) and I am trying to cut back on the bad food, plus exercising a few times a week.
A few things I've noticed though is that at times I have random 'heart flutters' or my pulse seems to be up. I am not sure if this stems from me focusing on my heart rate somewhat obsessively and causing myself to become very anxious, or if there is something else going on. I do have a very sore left side and back in the mornings, or I wake up in the night and my side is killing me so I rollover. Both could possibly come from the mattress being too firm. Also, I get random bouts of, sort of dizzy, sort of just light-headed.
Basically, I'm just wondering if others had these issues when they started? I know most people would just tell me to go to my general-doc for this, I am planning to, but I am curious if maybe my body was so messed up from a lifetime of apnea that perhaps this is just my body adjusting to getting sleep for the first time in ever?

Thanks for reading...

Please fill in your equipment (top left hand side of page - click on User Control Panel)

We have all had some of those symptoms but it is always good to have them checked out.

I found I needed a mattress topper to make my bed softer and a better pillow to support my neck because for the first time in years I was staying in one position for many hours.

Another thing is alcohol will affect your system and reduce the quality of your sleep.

Sleeping well will affect the way you process medications so you may want to discuss any meds you take with your doctor. I found that caffeine affected me much more dramatically after I started cpap and 2 cups would have the effect of 4 cups or more.

Talk to your primary care physician. This could be unrelated to CPAP therapy. Sometimes people find they no longer require as high of dosage on medications after going on CPAP. No matter the cause your PCP is the place to start. Welcome to the forum.
