WISP users- need to hear from you!

Post by sleeplessinaz » Sun Jan 12, 2014 3:33 pm

Hello there,
I loved the Nuance Pro but had to stop using it due to the headgear. I am so sad to have to stop using it, I loved the soft nasal, pillows. I had to go back to using my Aloha mask. Like everyone else on here, I am on the search for the Holy Grail of masks. Lol! If that back strap on the Nuance Pro was adjustable it would have been the perfect mask for me. That back strap was too big and kept sliding up on me and then the nasal pillows would get dislodged, and the leaking noise would wake me up.

Anyhow, I ordered the Wisp on Friday from CPAP.COM and I am wondering how current WISP users like their masks? Any tips for me when I get mine? How do the sizes compare to the sizing of the nasal pillows? With the Nuance Pro I used the Small nasal pillows. I also used the small nasal pillows on my Aloha mask as well.

Thanks for your input or any advice that you can share with me on the Wisp that would be great!

Thanks,
Carrie

The Wisp is a nasal mask not a pillow. Been using mine about a month and I like it .
I leave the top straps fairly loose or it rides up and causing pain above lip.
Bottom strap I have it nice and snug....

Like Darco, I too leave the top straps a little loose and the bottom straps snug. I hated this mask when I started therapy 3 months ago because I felt like I was suffocating and now I LOVE it. No leaks! I go back & forth between the L and S/M

I ordered my first Wisp on April Fools day last year. I just started using my third mask and my ninth cushion.
The bottom straps are snug, and the top are loose. I use the silicone frame--with the button clips.
I am quite satisfied with the fit and seal of the Wisp, but I would be thrilled if P-R made a smaller frame,
so my poor little earlobes would not have to take so much punishment.
The upper ends of the frame wave around away from my head like the antennae on a cockroach.
This is what my best possible fit looks like--but it still isn't perfect.

My head is not small but I find all headgear to be too large. I don't know who has the huge heads. I cut hair for over 40 years, so I have had my hands on a lot of heads. Most headgear would fit aliens I guess, but I never actually saw one.

Thank guys! I agree with stormy! All headgear seems to be made for the HULK! Giant heads! Wish that back strap was adjustable to go smaller and it would be the perfect mask. I like my Aloha for that reason - the headgear is so comfy. I am moving away from nasal pillows as I think they are making my nares bigger and I am getting an odd wrinkle right where my forehead meets my nose. I really don't need any help in making wrinkles!

I should be getting the mask this week. Can't wait to see how it goes. I wish that Respironics would make a nice supple nasal cushion with the exhalation port on the top strap. That would be awesome and ideal,

I don't ever sleep on my back, so I have just been rolling the Nuance Pro back head strap over a couple of times to tighten it up.

Slept pretty well last night with the Wisp. I did forget to change the setting from "pillows" to "nasal" but I had zero leaks. And 1.3 AHI. I wonder what changing the settings will do?

Won't do much and likely won't impact the report at all.
All that setting selection does is alter the generic vent rate that is used for leak calculations.
Might be more important when changing from full face mask with a typically much higher vent rate.
Won't matter much at all when going from a nasal pillow mask to just nasal mask as the vent rates aren't all that different anyway.

--especially the Wisp and Nano nasal masks, which have similar volume to a nasal pillow mask.

Are you using the "Fabric" frame or the Silicone one??

I've been using the Wisp with the silicone frame for about eight months and like it a lot. In fact, I rotate it with a Quattro FX FFM from time to time. I have a tough time getting my Quattro FX FFM not to leak but with the Wisp it's pretty much put it on and forget it. BTW, my therapy pressures sometimes get close to 20cmH20. Unfortunately, I do have a mouth breathing problem (dry mouth in the middle of the night) which requires some mouth taping, chinstraps, etc, however that is not the Wisp's fault. I wish there was a FFM that had those high firm sidewalls and soft contact flange that I like sooooo much with the Wisp. Alas, I have not found an FFM model like that yet.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I have the fabric frame and it works fine for me. I removed the clips though.

I am using the silicone frame. I am getting pretty good success with it so far. I like it except for the headgear seems a bit excessive compared to my Aloha straps. I am going to keep using it until something better comes along! Lol!
