Newbie: My wife just bought me an used F+P HC254

Post by cesarekim » Mon Jan 13, 2014 11:35 am

Hi,
I'm a newbie here so please bear with me. I thought I was going to get a used S8 to replace my broken cpap but my wife found a deal on a year old HC254 and is shipping it to me in Kazakhstan. Having said that, I have gone on ApneaBoard for the clinician setup manual and hope to get that by mail sometime soon. Can anyone using the software for this APAP explain how it works? I have a company laptop with draconian security rules on it ( we are still on WINXP PRO for compatibility/security reasons!!) and would need to get line manager approval to install any software. I need to understand if I need to install this software to see if the CPAP/APAP is working for me or if I should just go with the I feel better / I feel worse method. I'm an engineer by training and have worked on and off on database development for years so I obviously would like a numerical data set to measure performance but I wonder if it's overkill...

Thank you for your understanding and help!

Cesare

There will/should be sufficient data available on the machine's LCD screen to at least give you some idea how things are going.
I don't know of any source available for the software that you would need (Performance Maximizer if I remember right) and it's a real bitch to install and use ....even without jumping the hoops needed to satisfy employer security issues on your laptop.

If it were me...with this particular machine I would just use the on screen available data....if AHI and leaks are are acceptable..then I would be happy as long as I was also feeling okay and sleeping okay.

Not sure if I even know where to find the software and not many forum members here even used it back when it was considered new. I might know one person who might have it but have no idea if he still even comes by the forum.
Get the manual and the machine and see if things are sufficient....you will have some data available and then perhaps worry about going further with the software exploration.

Thank you, Pugsy. Good enough and KISS are always good engineering so I will definitely try to make it work as is before I try anything adventurous.

Really appreciate your advice.

If you set it up like your old one the results should be really close in treatment. Jim
