Fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis (severe in knee, moderate in neck and shoulders).

I do think that by improving the quality of my sleep, CPAP has helped me deal with the fibro some. It's not that CPAP reduces the pain per se but that getting more and better sleep make it easier to cope with discomfort, brain fog, etc.

I'm probably a bit atypical here but the pain syndromes are what really drove me to discover that I have sleep apnea. It started with gastroparesis. Then it became paresthesia (shooting and burning pains, tingling, loss of feeling, etc) and muscle twitches (BFS), especially bad at night. I also developed allodynia in one spot. I was super exhausted in the mornings, with weakness so bad I had to crawl to the bathroom sometimes because I couldn't walk. Then my eyelids stopped closing all the way. Combined with blepharitis, I had a lot of conjunctivitis. All kinds of auto-antibody tests starting coming back positive. My groin started hurting. All the doctors thought I was crazy and it was in my head but I kept seeing every specialist I could trying to find some relief. I was in Boston at the time so there were lots of people to see!

Eventually someone pointed out my elevated serum bicarb might be sleep apnea. I ignored it for a year or so thinking he was crazy - I wasn't sleepy during the day! Eventually I got tested out of desperation and finally got treated for sleep apnea. Over the next year, pretty much all of this just went away. Then I was annoyed at my doctors who, 10 years earlier, said "you're young and healthy, stop worrying" when I was complaining about morning headaches, peeing at night, and um, sexual problems. Lately my reflux has come back a bit, my groin hurts again, I have jaw pain, and sometimes my allodynia and muscle pain shows up but at least not like before.

Avi,

Yes sir. In addition to a three level spinal fusion with instrumentation, I have osteoarthritis in both knees, both hips, and the lumbar area of my back. I have had two ACL repairs in my left knee and at least fifteen shots in this knee.

I have also had multiple rhizotomies in my lower back.

In addition, I'm am being treated for a very painful auto-immune disorder.

Unfortunately, pain is a big part of my life.

I will probably never know if the pain problems led to my severe sleep apnea. I just deal with the cards I am dealt.

Good Luck,
TheWino

Rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia plus assorted other aggravations but the major pain causer is peripheral neuropathy. I'm medicated to function with morphine and Aleve; also take Zoloft and Neurontin. No change after 1 yr of BiPAP ; However, after 5 months of no gluten grains, pain meds are halved, weight down 22 pounds, mobility returning; nerve function returning-- I know where my feet are. Cutting out most other grains, sugar going away, too. My husband nearly has his wife back instead of caring for a 74 yr. old spouse. My favorite Christmas gift was a DC50 Dyson...never thought I'd say that..last year I was using a walker.

So interesting to read your post, because I have the same experience. I went on a gluten-free diet for 8 months after a heart attack, and all my pain disappeared, I regained the fitness I thought had disappeared for good, I became a new person. Unfortunately I got a relapse an evening of tasty sandwiches, and then I was stuck again. Sandwich morning o evening last six months, all of my pain is back, the condition disappeared and I became an old man again (51 years). So for me the relationship very clear, I have now started my journey to become gluten-free again.
