Acne

Post by justminick423 » Mon Jan 06, 2014 1:15 am

I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, and as a result I get cystic acne pretty easily. I do take spironolactone, a medicine, for it. But although I have been using my cpap since late nov 2013, I am worried about breakouts. I wash my mask daily and my fact before bed. I've only broken out once in the spot where the mask touches my face. Any suggestions for keeping me acne free?

You might try washing your face an hour or so before bedtime so that it has a chance dry thoroughly before you put the mask on.

You might also want to try a cloth mask liner between the mask and your face and cloth mask pads to cover any irritating straps.

Some women are also put on OCP - oral contraceptive pills with your diagnosis. A specialist would be the best person to advise you.

I experienced a problem with an acne-like rash across my cheeks along the path of the Swift FX straps. I tried both using and not using the fabric covers, washing them frequently, going without the fabric covers, washing the straps frequently. I was also employing an aggressive facial cleaning more appropriate to a teenager (I'm over 40). I finally saw a dermatologist as I also had true acne on my chin and forehead. The solution for me involved a much gentler cleaning regimen along with dapsone cream (Aczone). This is essentially an antibiotic lotion but it has anti-inflammatory properties and settled the irritation caused by the straps. My skin is now the clearest I've ever had in my life. The dermatologist was really great about offering me prescription discount cards as these brand-name only creams are not cheap even with insurance.
