Nasal pillow masks and nasal congestion?
Does a nasal pillow mask like the "Nuance" (which is what i have, i got a Nuance and a EAsy life nasal) Does the Nuance nasal pillow type masks tend to help or worsen the Nasal Congestion?

Re: Nasal pillow masks and nasal congestion?
Edit: The following statement is incorrect, I was high on lily pad hootch, sorry!:
The Nuance is NOT a nasal pillow mask; its older sibling, the Swift FX is. The Nuance and
the Wisp are minimal nasal cushion masks, since there is only one opening, which surrounds the end of the nose.
Nasal pillows look like this:

Congestion with either type varies according to the individual--and often the night.
I have more trouble with full-size nasal cushions, because the pressure over the bridge of my nose causes inflammation.

Re: Nasal pillow masks and nasal congestion?
My bad, I was thinking about the Swift FX Nano.
I have the Nuance, myself, it is the only gel nasal pillow; as the others are all silicone.
I wear my Wisp the most, because it is more stable.
I like the Nuance, but it tends to make me sneeze a bit more the next day.
Your nasal passages may react differently to the airflow, but continued use may help you adapt to it.

Re: Nasal pillow masks and nasal congestion?
From my own personal experience, the pillows tend to cause nasal congestion, no matter what humidity level I'm at. But if I just keep a bottle of nasal saline next to my bed and take a couple squirts before bed, then everything loosens up and the pressures are able to just push everything out and keep me clear all night long. If its really bad I might have to take a couple of huffs in the middle of the night, but that is rare.

Re: Nasal pillow masks and nasal congestion?
I haven't been at this long but I have found that the saline gel spray is working well for me using the same technique. Never used these saline sprays before until I started cpap, now I can't get enough of them! Once in the morning, once when I get home from work, then the gel before bed and a travel bottle with me during the day...Apneanderthal wrote:From my own personal experience, the pillows tend to cause nasal congestion, no matter what humidity level I'm at. Re: Nasal pillow masks and nasal congestion?
I have Swift FX pillows and a couple of weeks ago had sinus congestion. I couldn't use CPAP, even with the humidifier running, because the air flow was causing painful inflammation, and once I became completely stuffed up, I simply couldn't breathe through my nose. I switched to an oral appliance that's available over-the-counter in Canada (Snoreguard) which isn't as good as the CPAP but better than nothing. Once my congestion started to clear up I was able to get back to the CPAP. I didn't have to wait until I was completely clear -- I could use it with a slight amount of nasal blockage.
Re: Nasal pillow masks and nasal congestion?
makes mine worst but it's the only one I can tolerate. I use some saline spray before I put the mask on so I'm as open as possible. I still wake up with dried blood inside my nose.
Re: Nasal pillow masks and nasal congestion?
I'm having the issue since I switched to the Tap Pap. I switched in mid July and really like the Tap Pap but I thought my allergies were acting up due to my symptoms but now it is winter and it is still going on. I had some dental work done and couldn't use my PapTap and went back to my old mask my symptoms went away. With the same humidity settings I almost use a full tank with my mask and when I use the Pap Tap I use only a third as much. Any ideas what is going on? I did change my mask settings.
