Respironics Nuance

Post by mollete » Tue Sep 17, 2013 3:27 am

A new mask that has been in Canada for a least a month, and I imagine will be floating down here soon:

this one looks like it might be a good alternative to the Swift FX that my preferred DME no longer carries. The Pilaro just did not work out for me.

Like headgear. The straps do no cross the raw spots on my jaw or temple from current mask. Shame I am a mouth breather and even at pressures above 20 cm still mouth breath when tried nasal pillows.

Hmmm this mask looks interesting. I'll have to check it out.

A few things I wonder about. First, since they're gel nasal pillows, and they say they're designed to fit different shaped nares, does that mean that they don't come in different sized pillows, like other masks?

Second, I notice that there are no strap adjustments at the back of the head. Only on the top and sides. That would make it difficult for a person with a smaller head to get a good fit.

Third, it says that it has a tube management loop (same as the Wisp) on the top strap so you can feed the hose over your head and out of the way. I'm wondering how well that works. I currently use the Aloha, which has a velcro thingy that tightens pretty well around the hose and keeps it from being loose. This set up doesn't seem to allow you to tighten it. It would just kind of lay there loosely and move around as you move in bed. Not liking that very much, unless you could jury-rig something to work better.

But thanks, Mollete, for posting the link. I hadn't heard of it before.

Edited to add this link: http://www.cpapmachinescanada.com/cpap- ... nuance.php

Same problem with all the masks coming out lately, except for Tap Pap: it's a circle on the head with two straps down over the cheeks.

Can't stand straps on my face.

I just got one today. Both straps are stretchy. The top strap is adjustable. There are small, medium, and large pillows. Although they tried to send me home with just the medium pillows that fit me, I asked for and got all three sizes, thanks to CpapTalk. The cones that go into the nostrils are very short and very small. It has a light, stretchy, flexible hose. It did not displace easily when I tested it under my pressure, laid my head down on the desk in the DMI's office, and rolled around. I am trying it tonight.

I have been using Swift FX for Her medium pillow for months. I love how minimalist the entire apparatus is. But I am really between the small and medium sizes, so I have been "gluing" the pillows to my nose with Mustache Sealer for Diving Masks. That works fine, but I am beginning to worry about putting that stuff in my nostrils every night, as I have no idea what is in it.

I am extremely claustrophobic and have used an oral appliance with some tolerable discomfort for two years. However, this week I tried this Nuance at Johns Hopkins overnight and was really pleased. It is soft, comfortable, and covers little of your face. If I go ahead with a CPAP, I will definitely look for this one.

Yes, older topic. However, I have been using this mask for a couple of months and it has worked very well for me. Love the lighter feel. I moved from a full-face, to nasal, and now the Nuance nasal pillows. The gel inserts are very comfortable.

I bought both Nuance Pro and Swift FX but I'm not going to even try them. Why, you ask? Well, I also bought TapPap and can not imagine that there's something better than that.
