Don't want to use my cpap anymore
Don't want to use my cpap anymore
Before cpap I slept soundly 8-9 hours woke up refreshed, full of energy. Now with cpap I get 4-5 hours of sleep if I am lucky, no energy, tired during the day. What is wrong with this picture?? It is the opposite of what it should be.
On it for a month now. Anybody else have this problem?

If we had more info we might be able to offer advice.
First the results of your sleep study including the breakdown of your AHI.
Next If you can get the reports from SleepyHead software and share some details, that might provide insight as to why you are not sleeping well.

Except your body was dying from the inside out from lack of O2. You only think you slept soundly. And the reason you woke up "refreshed and full of energy" was that your body was screaming with stress hormones from the apnea events.Cinders wrote:Before cpap I slept soundly 8-9 hours woke up refreshed, full of energy.

Lots of people. However, until we have any information about your particular situation, we can't offer much help.Cinders wrote:Before cpap I slept soundly 8-9 hours woke up refreshed, full of energy. Need to know what your pressure and humidifier settings are.
I see you're using an APAP. If you're using a range of pressures, it's highly likely that the pressure changes are disturbing your sleep.
Too much humidity can cause congestion and higher numbers of events......like flow limitations and AHI.
I also see you're using a nasal mask. It's possible that you're losing your therapy air out your mouth while you sleep......which is detrimental to successful therapy.

Re: Don't want to use my cpap anymore
My sleep study results were inconclusive because I only slept 3 broken hours (nerves) They put me on an adjusted pressure range because they did not know which pressure I would need. I do wake up when my pressure changes.
According to my data I use 10 and have 1 or less AHIs each night I have yet to talk to a sleep doc about my results.
I was told to wear the apap and we'll see you in a month which is Monday. I don't know what sleepy head software is.
Thanks for responding. I do use my apap every night and will continue to do so.

Huh, interesting. I only slept 2 broken hours in my horrible sleep study. I did do better when they put a mask on me a few weeks later. But frankly I do not trust my initial sleep study, because it was so out of the ordinary. Can they really tell anything in two fitful hours in a hostile environment?Cinders wrote:My sleep study results were inconclusive because I only slept 3 broken hours (nerves) They put me on an adjusted pressure range because they did not know which pressure I would need. That said, I am feeling a bit better after six months on CPAP, and not snoring at all.

Re: Don't want to use my cpap anymore
Sounds kinda odd and was not my experience with CPAP. Before I was put on CPAP, my sleep quality was awful and I'd "wake up" feeling totally nonrestored, unrefreshed and woke up with bloodshot eyes, sore throat (GERD), woke up feeling hungover basically even though I had not drunk booze the night before.
After being on CPAP (once I got a full face mask and learned to use it), all the above went away. I have flareups if I have problems with equipment and I have experienced one side effect that kind of has troubled me, upper left side stomach pain. But overall, your description sounds like you need a new sleep study or had a bad titration or maybe you need a full face mask?
I know when I slept with CPAP initially, I was given a nasal mask. And I'd say my sleep quality on CPAP with the nasal mask did make my sleep quality WORSE than with no CPAP at all. But once I got a Resmed Quattro full face mask and learned to use that sucker and shut down that mouth leak, my symptoms vaporized. I have tried going back to a nasal mask once in a while (maybe once every two years or so I will try a nasal mask for three or four days) and I feel AWFUL on the nasal mask, despite using the CPAP.
So, I'd say "have you tried a good full face mask?" Probably the best overall full face mask out there is the Resmed Mirage Quattro FFM. If you have the correct size it will handle the worst jaw drop and mouth leak anyone can have. The only thing about it is I have found you have to wear it tighter than Resmed claims to keep leaks down to a minimal amount and tight straps can be painful and even create new, non respiratory related side effects.
I hope you have good equipment support offline. I did the first two years or so I was on CPAP and that made a HUGE difference in me being able to be CPAP compliant.

Pretty strange and contradictory post. Hey, presumably you're an adult... do whatever you want. I sincerely wish you good luck with whatever course of action you take. Sometimes (rarely) sleep doctors misdiagnose people.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Re: Don't want to use my cpap anymore
I did have worse sleep quality on CPAP when I initially used a nasal mask. I'd wake up with a super dry mouth and air would be rushing out of my mouth. I could not stay asleep, the CPAP would keep waking me up. Problem went away immediately with aggressive use of Resmed Quattro full face mask and sleep quality improved dramatically.
So I do believe it is possible for CPAP to make sleep quality worse, not better. Also, if my pressures are too high, my sleep quality is worse. Possible over titration?

Re: Don't want to use my cpap anymore
Two things we need to address: it's only been a month--enough time for some of us to get used to it; not enough for everyone else.
The other thing: the machine is set "wide open" if the average pressure level can be read, the pressure range
needn't be more than 2 or 3 cm either side of that--producing less fluctuations, meaning better therapy with fewer disturbances.
I suspect that sometimes auto machines are setup like that so that after the trial period it's easier to con the patient into a single-pressure "brick".
For me, auto is more comfortable than single pressure--and an auto machine can be run either way, but not the other way around.
