Heated Hose is Wonderful!
Heated Hose is Wonderful!
How did I make it this far without a heated hose?! Mine arrived yesterday and I used it last night for the first time. Wonderful! Such a difference. My sinuses didn't dry out, and I didn't have cold air blowing onto my nose.
It was great, until the power went out. But I got over 5 hours of use and am looking forward to using it tonight. Hopefully the power will be back long before tonight!

Ahh...that one. I was wondering because your profile points to the 50 series machine.
When you have time you might update your profile so we won't be confused.
Machine would be
PR System One 60 Series Auto CPAP
Humidifier would be
PR System One 60 Series heated tube humidifier with heated tube (like I have in my profile).
And yes, it is awesome nice to have. Back when I was using the 50 series machine I found that even with the max setting of 5 (not in classic mode) my nose was painfully cold and would wake me up often. If I changed to Classic Mode at 5..the nose wasn't so cold but rain out was pretty bad.
I am a firm believer in having the heated hose available...better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
Especially in the winter when we typically have much cooler bedroom temps.
Plus we have better control over the humidity being delivered. In the summer I can still have lots of added moisture and turn the temp down so it isn't so warm. Best thing since sliced bread for my needs. I like the cooler air in the summer but don't care for it in the winter.
Finally...I can use the higher humidity settings that my nose likes and not have nearly as much rain out annoyances to deal with.

Re: Heated Hose is Wonderful!
I have a 60's series machine with a heated hose but I have never turned on the hose heater.
I'll have to pull out the manual to see how to use it unless someone here tells me. Is that
heater control separate from the humidifier?

With the heated hose plugged in the knob you can turn on the blower unit controls the temperature of the hose...so if you have been using anything other than 0...you have been using the hose heater.bryansong wrote:I have a 60's series machine with a heated hose but I have never turned on the hose heater.

To set the humidity level choice you have to go into the clinical menu and with the heated hose attached (can't do it with hose not attached) you should get a choice of 1, 2 or 3 for humidity level delivery...70, 80 and 90%..with 3 being the 90%.
There is also a choice for temperature of the air in the hose...1 through 5 with 1 being the lowest and it starts out at 4 degrees above whatever the room temp is. The greater the number the more warmth.
Once you leave the clinical setup menu...you can still alter the temperature selection at will from the knob on top of the blower unit but to change the humidity delivered you must go back to the setup menu choices.
Example..I like the 90% humidity...and a cold bedroom...so my temperature selection is the 5 or max...at 4 I get a bit of rain out in the mask...at 5 I don't.
During the summer I wouldn't want so much warm air and I still prefer the 90% humidity so I just reduce the temperature number so the air isn't quite so warm...but even at 5 the air isn't warm feeling to my face...remember we are starting off with a cold bedroom (like 55 or 60 degrees) so even max heat doesn't create a sauna for me. So the starting temperature for bedroom air is going to impact your heated hose air temp choice. If you like your bedroom at 76 degrees...you might not want to turn the temperature up much or it could feel like a sauna.
It's explained here fairly well.

Anyone with a 60 series machine and wondering "do I have the heated hose"....the heated hose has a black end to it where it attaches to the humidifier. If you don't have a black end you aren't using a heated hose.
For the machine to offer the choices for humidity and temperature the heated hose must be connected. If it isn't connected the only choice is the default number for the new humidification system for the S1 machines.

Re: Heated Hose is Wonderful!
That is a whole lot more complex than I though. I have been running my humidifier knob at about 2 and you are saying that is my hose control knob.
I'm writing from my work location so I'll need to get in front of the machine for it to make more sense. I have been in that setup screen before and have
the manual for that if needed.
All this time I have been wondering when I was going to need to figure out how to turn on the hose to avoid the rainout but I just found out I'm already on.
Thank you.

Re: Heated Hose is Wonderful!
If you have the heated hose...that 2 is for temperature control for air in the hose and not humidity being delivered...if you want to reduce the rain out...either increase the temperature or go into the clinical setup menu and reduce whatever the humidity selection is...if it is 3..turn it down to 2 or whatever.bryansong wrote:All this time I have been wondering when I was going to need to figure out how to turn on the hose to avoid the rainout but I just found out I'm already on.
My nose doesn't like getting dried out so I don't reduce the humidity being delivered... so when I have rain out issues I use other methods to help reduce the chance.
Sometimes the rain out at the mask level is simply from the moisture in your own exhaled breath and not so much from the moisture coming from the humidifier. That can be more of a challenge especially if you like a cold bedroom. There are ways to help reduce it though if increasing the air in the hose temperature doesn't quite get it done.
