I've had a few long episodes of arrhythmia, so for the next 3 weeks I'm wired up to a portable heart monitor.
Arrrgh! As if CPAP wasn't enough, now I'm on a heart monit

I am happy that you are getting help. While wearing this may be a PITA it is better than a surprise down the road. Wishing you well.

Love the cartoon Jeff! I was on a heart monitor not too long ago and aside from my concern over the reason for that, I was amused at myself getting ready for bed -- trying to coordinate the hose, the wires, the electrodes, my mouth tape, my mask... now let's see, where in my bed should I lay the heart monitor unit so I don't roll over and smush it, or turn over the other way and the electrodes get pulled off. I laid very, very still that night.JeffL wrote:Getting old sucks! Even though it beats the alternative

I'm off to bed now, so we'll see how it goes.kaiasgram wrote:Love the cartoon Jeff! It shouldn't be too bad. The wires go to a small sensor box that hangs from my neck, so all of that is under my top. The sensor communicates wirelessly with as small monitor in the other room (that I can take with me if when I leave the house), and the monitor sends data to the monitoring facility via cell phone towers. Pretty amazing
Re: Arrrgh! As if CPAP wasn't enough, now I'm on a heart monit
I did one of these heart monitors for 3 weeks about a year ago. After I broke the plastic loop on the top of the monitor, I put in it a badge holder - similar to what you can find at the airport for holding your airline tickets. After attempting to get more than one day's usage out of the batteries and being woken up by a low battery alert, I learned to change them every night and always make sure the receiver was plugged in. Having an electrode pull off is also a "wakening" event, so I wore a t-shirt to protect those.
So, what to do with 3 weeks worth of "half used up" batteries? I gave them to my daughter to use in my grandson's battery operated toys.
Have fun...

The instructions say to replace the battery in the sensor everyday (the kit came plenty of them), and charge the receiver everyday. I just keep the receiver in the charger unless I'm going out.cicsos2 wrote: After attempting to get more than one day's usage out of the batteries and being woken up by a low battery alert, I learned to change them every night and always make sure the receiver was plugged in.
The only problem I had last night was that the charger/receiver was in another room, and though I was told that it would work as long as the two units were within 100 feet of each other, I seemed to find a sleeping position that blocked the signal. It woke my wife up (not me, being that I was in a good CPAP sleep ), so we moved it to the bedroom.
