I think my cpap/asv is causing ear infections

Post by johnthomasmacdonald » Mon Nov 25, 2013 2:03 pm

i first had it treated about a month ago with cipro - pressure on it from the outside caused the boil/abscess inside the canal to rupture and release pus - it took about a week to fully resolve

Now it was back again last night with a fever of 101.6 and it was very painful to lay that side of my head on the pillow.

I've kept the device as clean as possible - never used anything but distilled water and continuously rise everything out with vinegar and dawn detergent.

Prior to this I've had no ear infections in something like over 35 years.

I see my sleep doctor tomorrow for my usual check-up

I hope that all is well with all

John,

I am so sorry as you were doing so well on this machine.

I hope you get some answers from your sleep doctor.

So sad you're feeling bad. I hope you get a resolution to your infection.
The machine may be doing more help than harm. Oxygen helps your immunity and healing.

Like I said in the other thread, it could be more about the reaction of your sinuses to the air going past them. They get irritated, then inflamed which creates pockets of warm moist germ breeding grounds. This is what creates kid's ear infections.

Cipro is a very powerful antibiotic, and the dosage and course is restricted.
The "standard" course may not have been sufficient for your case/physiology.
Go back to your doctor and keep calling until the problem is solved.
I read an article about heavy patients not being given sufficient dosage of chemo meds;
this could happen with antibiotics as well, IMHO.
If you are skinny, I apologize profusely.
