.

.I have had my adjustable bed since 1972. I have always used a latex mattress on it..... 8 to 9 inches in depth. I was told to only use that kind of mattress on a adjustable bed. For sure always use a flipable mattress!!

As per this post they no longer make flipable
Mattress. They haven't in a very long time ...

For an adjustable bed you want an easy to flip mattress....So you must have a two sided mattress. The best two sided Mattresses are your latex. They also last longer. I say instead of paying the middle man at these big box retail stores....go to a factory (preferable a small company who will custom make what you want and you can get a lot more for your money!

I have researched this industry extensively! I can keep my latex mattresses for 15-20 years no problem. IMO a natural latex mattress is the crem de la crem!

You would have to go to a Specialty Store
to even get a two sided Matt these days.

With out getting two technical. There is a reason the Matt Industry stopped
making 2 sidded Mattresss. They can make a much stronger Matt when
You don't flip it. Your traditional Matt has a warranty of body impressions of
1 3/4 inch. Your Memory foam or Tempur foam Matt has a 3/4 of a inch warranty for body impressions.
Simmons Matt has a line up called ' Comforpedic ' which is a very nice Matt.
Even Sealy is making a memory foam Matt. Latex and Memory foam and Tempur foam
are all different feeling Mattress. They are all good Mattress also. It just depends on the feel
you want. I have cust who will buy nothing but Memory foam. Than
I have cust who want nothing to do with it. It's all personal preference.

Buying a mattress is a difficult process in that you really would want to sleep on a mattress for a few nights before making such a large investment, and that is rarely possible.

The high-end Tempurpedic mattresses generally are well regarded. I've slept on some at hotels, and have enjoyed them. As to firmness, I can't answer that one. Within a type of mattress or a particular brand, the retailer should be able to give good advice about which product is more or less firm.

As mentioned above, The Mattress Underground http://www.themattressunderground.com is a great wealth of information - both the articles and the forums.

If you hadn't already ordered a mattress, I might suggest you "sleep around" a bit first, but since you've already ordered a mattress, your best bet might be to learn how to make it the best mattress -for you-. Make sure you can set it up and let it breath for a night before you use it, as it will have a bit of a smell. Make sure you get a good pillow. Pillows seem to behave differently on a memory foam mattress compared to inner spring, for example. You may end up trying multiple height pillows to find a good fit.

Good Luck!

I can say that going the custom/specialty route results in a great mattress. If you go the king sized bed you even get to customize sides. Five years ago I "configured" a king size natural talalay latex mattress from Flobeds. It was set up per the help provided on the website and phone inquirie. It arrived & required my wife and I following instructions for assembly of the layering of latex to get the desired firmness. It took us about an hour at most to assemble the mattress. You'd be hard pressed to know it was put together on site. I loved it from the first night, my wife liked my side better. A call to Flobeds & they sent components to configure her side to match mine. Two days later they came (from CA to NY) we unzipped & reconfigured her side & she loves it. When we need a new one this is how we'll go.

I just want everyone to know that the mattress industry did not stop making a two sided mattress (as stated by "Let Me Sleep")....as I just bought a new two sided Dunlop latex mattress. (Check out my list above) Maybe the big box stores have stopped making two sided mattresses, but it is just not true to say you cannot buy them anymore or to infer that they are an inferior product because they are not made by big box retailors.

I have a very bad and unstable back from a terrible auto accident years ago.....so I have a princes and the pea syndrome going. My spine feels every little thing. I can go try many mattresses and think that they will be sooooo comfortable. After sleeping on them for anywhere from a week to a month my back will let me know if it is the right one or not. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars finding what is right for me. I am not alone in discovering that natural latex is fabulous. There is a huge market out there for this kind of mattress.

Bottom line: Look at everything before buying!

Bryon, if you call your local Mattress store
they can explain why they stopped making
the two sided Matt. Unless you want to go to
a specialty store. During are Sales meeting
this morning Tempurpedic is rolling out a national
sale this Fri it ends on Dec 2. Free boxes and
additional savings on top of that. I have know
idea what size you bought or I could give you
a price. Tempurpedic has fixed pricing so no
matter what store you go too it will be the
same price.....

I love TemperPedic beds. I gave away my queen size when I moved into a smaller apartment. It was ten years old and still in perfect condition. I now have a full size in the bedroom and a twin in the guest room. The basic model is fine for me, I don't need all the bells and whistles and pillow top and stuff. It takes some adjusting to get used to a TemperPedic, but it keeps my weak back healthy and improves my sleep. I won't buy any other kind of mattress.

Let Me Sleep,

The Friday special sounds interesting but I'd hate to change anything now.

Here is what is going on.

I purchased a California King Tempur Rhapsody from Sears and it will be delivered Black Friday.

There has been a lot of great comments and information on this thread, thanks to all of you!

I am guessing that it was about 4 years ago that my wife and I purchased our current bed. We had been
checking the mattress stores and talking with sales people and the prices were so high I was feeling
guilty for wanting to get a new bed, discouraged really , I was about to give up but we stopped at
one last furniture store close to home and found a bed that was about $ 1,100. That was a great price
compared to what we had been looking at so I sort of jumped at it and bought right then without
really spending any time laying on it. The mattress's were made by Cymbol, or Simbal, I can't really
remember.

I am 235 pounds and I just don't have any support, it is way too soft and I know it is causing me a lot
of low back, hip, leg, ankle and foot pain. That is why we went to Sears to look at the firmest tempur pedic
mattress we could find. I laid on them and checked them out for a few minutes at least and thought
the Rhapsody might work. I hope it works, it's a lot of money. I need a new bed now so I bought it.
I do have a 120 day return period so if I don't like it I can send it back for a $75.00 fee.

Going back to the other conversation about the Latex mattress, I am very interested in looking at that
if this Rhapsody doesn't work.

jwerley,

I saved all of those companies information you gave me so I can check them out if this other mattress doesn't work out.
I am worried about the scents of the tempur because I do have a chemical sensitivity to scented products. If the new bed
reeks for very long it will be going back, I am counting on the odor going away quickly. I also have the link to the mattress underground
for future use. I spent about an hour reading it Friday but I didn't come any way near finishing it. I learned some things and will keep looking
at it just in case. Also, I had never heard of the latex mattress and especially one where they ship it to you and you have to layer it together.

I hope what I bought works,

Again, thanks to all of you.

Bryan
