CPAP vet

Post by PanzerMax » Tue Nov 19, 2013 10:16 pm

Have been using the original Resmed S7 Lightweight since my sleep study in 2003. I just found these forums, and I can see CPAPs have changed a bit. Now, I am getting great sleep with the S7 and I see no reason to worry about replacing it. But, I like motorcycle travel, and it takes up a lot of space, so what do you recommend for:

1. small compact size
2. no heaters or dehumidifiers needed
3. can run a night on 12v or a battery

thanks a ton!

Thanks, I saw that one and commented on it in the thread.

Anyone else? What about this machine: Transcend

Is there any reason why I can't simply use a "travel size" CPAP as a daily machine?

Don't know, but I'd be asking how noisy it is, how well it would hold up under daily use for years, and whether it has the capabilities that you need on a daily basis. For example, the Z-1 is not an apap, just a cpap, so if you did better with auto pressure control, then you'd be giving that up. No humidifier or heated hose, also, as far as I can see. And you'd need to be able get whatever "expiratory pressure relief" that you needed to be comfortable on a daily basis from it. The Z-1 has this to some degree, but don't know how much, since they don't mention exact pressure relief numbers in the ad that I saw.

Even if you were looking for straight cpap with no heated hose or humidifier, I'm not sure how well the smaller ones would hold up over time, or if they're made to be used that way.

I'd like to see some posts from folks who have used these "travel" versions every day for a period of years, and hear about their experiences.

Thanks for the reply, Roger. I'm fine with a straight CPAP, I get along fine without the heated hose or humidifier. I am still using the original machine I got in 2004 and really sleep well. I wouldn't even be considering a new machine except the truck company I work for asked me to provide compliance data. I said, what's that?? I had no idea that CPAP machines now have SIM cards and downloadable ports.

Me too, hopefully some will lend us their experience.
